I've been wondering about how to safely clean my AK's chrome lined bore. I don't own any other firearms with a chrome lined bore and am unsure as to what will and will not damage it. I have been cleaning it with the little kit that came inside the butt of the weapon but would like to use a more sturdy and convenient cleaning rod/brush. The bore brush that came with it was of a synthetic type of stiff bristle. Will a standard brass brush scratch the bore? Also, what size brush is equivalent to 7.62x39? This is not one of the standard brush sizes they sell at WalMart! http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

7.62X39 is the same size as .30 caliber. I use brass brushes and bore cleaner to clean mine, but I'm not an expert.

The chrome lined bore in your rifle makes
cleaning easier and it is very durable, you
just clean as you would any rifle. The gas
piston is also chrome plated to resist rust
and corrosion. The nylon brush that came in
your cleaning kit should do , I like to use
a slightly larger than .30 cal brush because
it cleans a little better, like .32 caliber.

The cleaning kit that came with your rifle and a bottle of CLP is all you need. The chrome lining is a lot harder than any steel used in barrel making. A .30 caliber brush from Wal-mart will work just fine.

Thanks guys. You hate to think that you would screw up you're weapon due to ignorance. All the posts were helpful.
