View Full Version : Copper Fouling?

Does anyone have any copper fouling problems? My one dealer swears he has seen several AKs ruined by copper fouling? He proceded to sell me a bottle of Shooters Choice copper remover, I needed it anyways since I was concerned about my one ruger but it came out negative. I would not think the AK chrome lined barrel would be prone to this and also I am concerned the solvent which is supposed to remove copper and guilded metal might effect the chrome. Any experiences?

Sounds like he was trying to scare you into buying something. I have never seen or heard of any AK or SKS being ruined by copper fouling. More likley he was confused and thinking aboout a lack of maintenance and corrosive ammo. That's about the only thing I've ever seen that ruins these bores.

As far as the copper remover goes, there should be no problems using it. I use shooter's choice bore cleaner which also has copper remover in it. After thouroughly cleaning the bore, I will occasionally use shooter's choice copper remover on a patch to ensure the bore is clean, but this is mostly because I'm used to being rather anal when cleaning precision rifles, and just can't stand to alter my practices (even for a "working" gun). I've never had any problems with copper remover and chrome bores, so don't worry.
