View Full Version : Ejection Issue?
I love my new AK, except for the ejection problem...
The extractor seems to work fine, but the cases are not being ejected consistently. Sometimes they are hanging butt out and sometimes just still in the feed area, but always fully extracted from the breach.
On the first day at the range, I shot close to 40 shots and had 8 jams. Something is definitely wrong, but I figure that I have come to the right place for help.
It's a Maadi MISR (w/American parts, pistol grip, etc.) and I was shooting Wolf 7.62 hollow points.
I bought the AK for its reliability rep, so I am betting it is a simple fix. Anybody have any suggestions? ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks, DJ

DJ, sounds like the extractor is working fine, how about the ejector on the receiver rail? If it's bent/short/damaged then it won't properly kick the cases out the ejection port. Have you tried *carefully* extracting cartridges/cases manually to see where the problem might be originating? If this isn't the problem then I suggest you check the gasport to ensure it's clear and check the recoil spring for proper tension. HTH!...

PS-BTW, I'm leery of AKs with US parts until I know their longterm quality/durability.
Tomac: Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it and it looks like the ejector is a little short. Would you know if this is an easy thing to replace? DJ

DJ, I've never experienced this problem myself so unfortunately I don't know how difficult it is. From the looks of it the rail carrying the ejector is part of the receiver and hence permanently attached. I can't recall ever seeing the rail by itself for sale. This may be a major job (sounds like this particular rifle was put together with at least one very worn part). If push comes to shove I suppose you could try to have a local machine shop build up the length with a drop of weld but I don't know if that would last/work. You could try the following vendors for parts: http://www.sksman.com/ http://www.globaltrades.com/ http://www.tapco.com/ http://www.aa-ok.com/ http://www.k-varcorp.com/1999pricelist.html
Hope this helps!...

The rifle was engineered to function in extremes of cold, thus the powerful action on ejection. The extractor is very strong, for pulling heated cases from below-zero chilled chambers. The old saying is with AK rounds that if you can't hit them with the bullets, your case has an equal chance of knocking someone out.
