I've bought every AK book I can find at bookstores, gunshows and on the net, and I have yet to find a gunsmithing guide to AK's like the ones available for building an AR-15. You know, a book that says: "Step 1, insert tab A into part B. Step 2, ....." While it all looks so simple, I have a million questions about head spacing, barrel attachment, trunion rivets etc. that no book has answered to date. I really want to know how hard it would be to build an AK from scratch at home and, if I decide to do it, what comes first etc. Any ideas?

www.gunaccessories.com (http://www.gunaccessories.com) and www.booktrail.com (http://www.booktrail.com) (same store actually) have the UGI video on gunsmithing for the AK-47. I have it on order and if you can wait a week I'll be able to tell you more about it.
As a side note, www.gunaccessories.com (http://www.gunaccessories.com) is a good reputable store. I have ordered a few things from them and got them very promptly. I know a lot of people are cautious about shopping on the internet.

I got the video today, and it's pretty good. It's about an hour and a half long, mentions a little about most of the variants, but most of the work is done on a MAK-90. It starts off showing how to do basic field stripping on the gun, removing the top cover, the retainer spring, carrier and bolt, the spring off of the guide, and the gas tube/handguard. It then goes on to taking the whole trigger assembly apart and how to clean it all. Of course next is putting it all back together. At the end is a few blurbs on muzzle brakes, etc. And finally he shows how to load the Norinco drums. It's not a book, but I'd actually consider it better
