Ran a hundred rounds of Russian "non-corrosive" through my Russian SKS last summer. Ran a brush and patch through it afterwards. Yesterday I pulled the rifle out and found the bore was all corroded with rust. Did the same thing with my chrome bore lined Chinese at the same time, not a speck of rust. I tried bore cleaner, WD40, even ran steel wool through it to get the rust out. Any suggestions on how to restore my bore?

Keep using bore cleaner, oil and a brass brush. It's gonna take some time. I don't think steel is a good idea.BTW I have heard some bad comments on Russian ammo even when it says non-corrosive.

To quote the Gipper in regards to Russia:
"Trust but verified". This applies to ALL ammo imported from a former east block country (The Czech republic (S&B) excepted).

Jeffer,
I would also strip down the AK and look at the gas system.

I always run a patch with some clp on it after cleaning and never have problems with russian ammo causing rust or corrosion.

Does your Russian SKS have a chromed lined bore?
Take care, OUT

Don/t forget the gas system guys, corrosive ammo will attack the gas tube interior FIRST! You MUST clean it, the piston and the gas block TOO!!!!

I too have my doubts about Russian non-corr ammo as well. I shot a bunch of the stuff and cleaned my gun but forgot to clean the groves of the muzzle break and in 24 hours it was covered with rust! Hot soapy water works great for corrosive ammo. I wouldn't really worry about it, AKs are tough and designed to use crappy ammo.
