I have one of the early imports. The only difference I can see between it and the current imports is they don't come with a scope or the extra mag, sling, and carry case.
My rifle was bought new with a Russian 3.5x scope that was imported with them at the time. It is 100% reliable and will shoot 2" groups at 100 yards with my handloads.
The stock is very comfortable becasuse it is longer and thinner at the wrist than other Ak type rifles.

I bought one and think that it is a good buy. You will be surprised with it's accuracy. With the Kobra attached it is really a fun gun to shoot. If you don't need a 30 rnd. mag and the military look, you can't go wrong for $200.

I would like to see a review by someone who has the 16" .223 Saiga.

I bought my saiga 7.62 in december of 1999 at a king of prussia guns show. It is reliable and fun to shoot. I converted it to use high caps(can only use blocked to 15 rounds in Nazi Jerzy). I take it to PA to shoot. It works well with ball ammo. Rapid fire is awsome. Well worth the price. shop around and you might get one for about $200.00. I paid $280.00 for mine. Mark Krebs does the conversions, but for the money you may just want to get a romanian ak.

I have the .308 and the 7.62 x 39 and I like both of them. I don't really shoot either one very well, but I am pretty certain it is me, not the guns. I just ordered a .223 today. That should make it clear that these are pretty good buys. Especially the 7.62 x 39. At $189.00 from CDNN you simply cannot go wrong. A standard AK mag can easily be converted to work in the 7.62, if you don't want to go to the hassle of converting the gun itself, and if you are willing to take the risk, as it is illegal to do so.

Brooks: I will try to post some kind of review of the 16.5 inch .223, when I receive mine and have a chance to check it out.
