Please don't tar and feather me for asking this, but......
I have been seeing a lot of advertisements for the Rock Island Arsenal GI 1911 .45 autos. It is an exact copy of the original M1911 with total full interchangeability of all parts. It costs $315 dealer price.
Since the supply of Sistema Colt M1927's has about dried up except for the opportunists (spelled BLOODSUCKERS) who want $400-$500 bucks for one..... do any of you have one or know anything about them? I know it's not C&R but the 1911 style and all is. Anyhow, I'm considering one of these in the near future.

Hey Salbo, their website is at http://www.rockisland45.com/ and the top one (on the left) is the one I'm talking about. Beautiful!!! The price is quoted in Shotgun News a couple of places as being $315.
I am going to have to buy one, no way around it, man.

yeh Baby !!! that is what I have been hunting. a good quality 45 at wholesale pricing that is 100 percent compatible with a Colt 1911. I havent been to any sites to price it yet but I am headed that way now. First stop Sarco...
"All parts for our Rock Island 1911 are made to ISO 9001 standards"
That does mean Colt compatible correct ?
Thanks for the help...Yahhhooo !
I just bought a Ballister Molina and SAR 1 this past week so I will have to wait 2 or 3 weeks so the wife doesnt shoot me with it when it comes in....LOL

Salbo,
It definitely means that it all interchanges and is all Colt compatible. I gotta have one!!! I hope you do get one and will come back and tell me all about it. I hear you on the waiting, though, I have 2 Yugo M48 Mausers scheduled to arrive any day now, plus a crate of 8mm ammo.
BUT....... my wife wants a P-38 pistol. They have them new, unissued for less that $300 so if she gets one, Rock Island, here I come!!! LOL
Don't buy the last one, though. Leave one for me!!!

SALBO,
LOOK ON THE LAST PAGE OR THE BACK COVER (WHAT EVER YOU WANNA CALL IT) OF THE JUNE 10th ISSUE.
THE ONLY PLACE TO GET THESE IS SARCO OR DEALER WAREHOUSE. THOSE ARE THE ONLY US DISTRIBUTERS OF THE ROCK ISLAND ARMORY IN US AS OF NOW.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I BOUGHT A FRAME ASSAMBLY FROM SARCO & IT'S OK, IT'S A CASTING & THE STEEL IS NOT THE BEST (TYPICAL PHILLAPEN) BUT FOR THE PRICE I GUESS IT'S WORTH IT. I JUST WOULDN'T EXPECT KIMBER QUALITY
SO FAR EVERTHING IS INTERCHANGABLE WITH COLT I HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO THE INTERNALS YET.

SalBo,
In my shotgun news, Volume 56, issue 16, look on page 103. There is also another ad on page 40 which is a better ad. Yes, SARCO is the big cheese in this deal. But price is advertised as being only $315.
Good luck, and let me hear how it goes.

Thanks Guys....I emailed Sarco yesterday and got a response that they are in stock and are 315 wholesale...I think I will order one in a couple weeks. I want something to build a tricked out 1911 from and this looks like it might be the one to start with.
So these are made in the Phillippines ?
I was thinking of Rock Island Armory in the U.S.........has anyone actually seen one of these ?
1911Colt has me wondering about quality now.....but at 315 it might be worth a shot....

I guess it all comes down to the question again, does price equal greatness. LOL It's like me trying to buy a preban AK for $1500 as opposed to a SAR for $300. I'd personally rather have the 5 SAR's that the preban would have cost me in the first place.
I've noticed that everyone these days wants that huge ugly guard deal at the grip safety. I think it looks ugly and I will never have one on my gun. I want a pistol that looks and feels authentic, and takes authentic parts too. I think this Rock Island gun fills my needs pretty well.
As for prices on some of the pistols, they are all like $600 to close to $2000. Give me a $315 bargain anytime!!!

that is my thinking also Survivor99. At this price one can expect a good safe piece but not a 1500 dollar Colt. I just got one of theBallester Molinas this week and I love it but it isnt Colt compatible except the barrel and magazine. I am ordering one soon. I just got the wife's permission to buy my own late Father's Day present....
I just called my local FFL and he is sending SARCO a copy of his FFL today so I can call it in to them. They should have it on file in a week or so............

SALBO
I HOPE I DIDN'T MISLEAD YOU (OR ANYONE ELSE) I LIKE
THIS FRAME & IT'S WELL WORTH WHAT I PAID ($195) IT'S
GOING TO MAKE A VERY DECENT MIL-SPEC PISTOL. I CAN
TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE THAT IT WON'T STAY "TIGHT"
FOR AS LONG AS A HIGHER QUALITY BAR STOCK FRAME
WILL. I THINK THEY ARE EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS ANY
OTHER CAST FRAME, IT JUST SEEMED A BIT SOFTER WHEN
I CHECKERED THE FRONT STRAP (+A FEW TINY CASTING
"BUBBLES") I JUST THOUGHT I'D PASS IT ON TO YOU GUYS
SO I DOESN'T SURPRISE YOU LIKE IT DID ME.
SO MANY PEOPLE TRY TO BUILD A "BARGAIN BULL'S EYE"
PISTOL USING LOW-COST FRAMES & SLIDES & THIS JUST
CAN'T BE DONE. FOR A GI MIL-SPEC THESE FRAMES ARE
PERFECT!!
MY $.02
