If you want to thoroughly clean your AK of all dust, dirt, crud and don't want to fill the recesses in your receiver with Q-tip fuzz, remove the wood and blast the receiver with a can of carb cleaner( Wal-Mart; 78 cents per can). Carb cleaner leaves a residual dry film lubricant, unlike brake parts cleaner, but this is no substitute for proper lubrication with CLP or the like. This method will not harm the finish on an AK, unless it has some kind of painted finish.
