Quick question: what can I use to apply oil to the outside of the rifle? Cotton cloth and patches leave strands of fiber everywhere, and it drives me nuts. Is there an alternative, or should I just put up with it?

Have the same problem, maybe felt will work better.

Use a black cloth such as an old black T-shirt. Then the fibers that you leave behind are not as noticeable.

Black T-shirt is the best. Break out on of those old concert T-shirts.

I use Clean Room Wipes. Nothing is as lint free. Working in the Hi-tech industry has it's abvantages http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif.

i just spray the gun down with WD-40, use a toothbrush to scrub the dirt off and wipe it off with a papertowel or rag that wont leave fibers or get a can of compressed air to blow the fibers off, they use those for photo equip and other multiple uses

and on the 8th day GOD made the AK-47 and saw that this was good

I use cotton flannel without getting lint, but if you want something that won't leave lint and has a little abrasive actions so you can rub stuff off of it, use the lower leg of your worn-out jeans. The cloth is hardly worn and will hold oil well.
