I just finished cleaning a new SLR-95 that I shot for the first time. Only put 80 rounds of Wolf HP thru the barrel. When I look down the barrel I see what looks like a ridge or groove in the barrel about half way down (not the rifling twist). Ran a patch thru a couple more times and its still there. Is it possible the barrel is damaged already or is something stuck to the barrel and its being stubborn? Help?
How well does it do in the accuracy department? If it shoots well, I wouldn't worry about it.

It was pretty accurate when I shot it. I have not shot it since, so I don't know if there will be any change in accuracy. I'm more curious about what it is, how it got there, and if it will go away. I really can't tell what it is.
Hello Kalipc,
Are you sure that you are not looking at the gas cut?
Take care, OUT in Vegas!

Yes, it sounds like the gas port hole.

Hello 56s and others,
What is the "gas cut" people? And why haven't I ever heard of it before? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hello Kalipc,
The gas cut is a hole or a cut in the barrel where your gun draws gas pressure from to cycle the gun. The gas comes up the cut and forces the gas piston and carrier rearward ejecting a round and striping a new round off your mag and into the chamber.

Kalipc,
The gas port hole will be in allignment with the gas block (the block that your gas tube/upper handguard fits onto).

If you want to test to see if it's the gas port, take the gas tube off and run a pipe cleaner into the gas post (?) on the barrel. As you're looking down the barrel with a bore light, etc. see if where the pipe cleaner sticks out is where you are seeing the ridge. Sometimes reflections from all that chrome can play tricks on ya!
