View Full Version : 7.5 french???
im looking at one of those mas autoloaders, only problem i see is ammo prices and supply. i thought i remember hearing that a 30 cal. bullet is the same dia. as the french round. anybody got a calliper and a pulled bulllet?? i would think that i could salvage surplus brass and drill it if its berdan primed or i would think that norma or lapua would make brass in it(they do fer everything else).
thanks

Could you neck up a swedish 6.5-55mm to the 7.5? I also heard that it takes a 30 cal bullets but I don't know anyone that reloads them.

Here's a great link I have used, one thing I would add is to use a mic on all bullets and to slug the bores. The bores I have slugged have been .3075-.3085 so they can run tight, bullets I have bought have been .308-.310 and I would perfer .001 oversize (so no .310 bullets in a .3075 bore-Smile).Reloading the 7.5 french (http://www.angelfire.com/nt/cruffler/reloadin.htm)

I use 6.5 swede gallery brass, I use a .308 winchester seating die
to seat a .308 147 grain BOATTAIL bullet, this gives me a 7.5 french round with a somewhat funny looking neck as the very base of the neck is not brought up to size.
Now a couple of issues that always pop up when I bring up using the gallery brass is the common belief that this is second quality brass fit only for blanks and gallery use, I have it first hand from a swede arms forum owner that they reload all of there brass and that only first rate stuff is used, most of it was reloaded for ball and a lesser quantity for other uses .
I have lost one case so far loaded in this manner due to a high body split, and I have done a lot of them this way,I do use a moderate load that is some what slower than a service round.
you will need to watch the case length on these . I do not need to trim them for MY rifle. I can really crank out the ammo for my mas 36 this way, it really is an enjoyable rifle.
a few years back the gallery ammo was almost free,I got several cases of 1800 rnds each from century for $56.00 each delivered, I had originally bought it to feed my recambered arisaka sporter and a few m96`s I had at the time.

Just saw your post about the 7.5 Biff. I reload for a few of the 7.5's I have and it is quite easy and inexpensive. If you are still interested let me know and I can give you a few pointers and some web sites.
Good luck
