Wife and daughter took the numerous hints and got me the MAS 49 I've been eyeing for three weeks. $215.00 OTD. I'd rate it overall as good. Bore is counterbored but bright with good rifling. Wood is missing a small divet or two here and there but isn't bad. There is a crack in the web in front of the triggerguard but it should glue up nicely. Inside of the triggerguard is cut rather roughly to allow clearance for the safety, wonder if they used a MAS36 buttstock. This stock is stamped to match the receiver. Specks of green paint on the butt. Any ideas? Finish is about 60% parkerizing. Mag is in good shape. There is a crack where the stacking swivel attaches to the nosecap. Will probably have it spotwelded. This is the French version with grenade launcher but no bayonet. Recoil spring is shorter than on my 49/56. Front of bolt has serial number electroplated so I'm assuming it's a 49/56 bolt? Why is there a routed out recess under the buttplate? All in all I'm very pleased, as I would be with any gift on this day but this one fills a niche in my collectiion and that's always nice.
