Can you name them all :)
I just bought my first 1911 Sunday.
Para-Ordnance P14.45 (steel frame & Black)
I have been reading about the 1911's for months in books & magazines
but still know very little.
Hope to learn much, now that I own one :)
I have 1000 questions; but I won't screw up your cool post with them.
PS: Like I said,
NICE

here is one of the 2 military 1911s I have, this is the Ithica one. I don't own any civilian models of the 1911s. BTW this is the place to ask those questions...it wouldn't be screwing up the post, all can share in the exchange of info. :)

Neil and sfc ret,
Great looking pistols! No wonder I can't find one, Neil bought all of them!! LOL
OK, I will ask the first dumb question to get the ball rolling here. What exactly, is the difference between the M1911 and the M1911A1?
I have always heard that it was the rear sights, being fixed on the 1911 and adjustable on the A1.
Damn, Neil!! That gave me a rush, seeing all those .45's!!!

Hi,
I have a question too. Is a Colt mfg. 1911 ser #1756** supposed to be parkerized? This one has aa stamped on the frame so I guess it was reworked by the Augusta armory? I looked up the # and it's a 1917 mfg.. It has no ser# on the slide, just says MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY on one side of the slide and the patent dates with the colt rampant horse and colt mfg. hartford ct. u.s.a. on the other.
Someone told me that the earlier colts were blued so I thought that I'd ask. Nice pistol though, about 98% and a good shooter.

sfc ret,
Thank you for such a great post! I found a few of these differences out myself, although some changes are more subtle than others are. I have a Rock Island Armory .45 which is part 1911 and also part 1911A1. It has a straight mainspring housing, the 1911 trigger, the square-notch rear sight, and smooth grips, LOL. I could have gotten WWI style grips for $7.95 extra..... It has a stainless steel barrel and is very accurate. I have two seven-round magazines for it, too.
Anyhow, I love this gun!!
Thanks for your informative knowledge.

Thanks sfc ret
I looked at the 1911 that I mentioned in an earlier reply, it's a 1911 alright, just parkerized and with 1911A1 grips. Is this what was done when it was reworked at Agusta I wonder?
This pistol was purchased through the DCM in the early 1960's and untouched since then.
Thanks for the picture and info.

all the .45 that where re-arsenaled, all had been parkerized. I'm surprised that they didn't up grade the main spring housing or the spur during the re-arsenaled process.....or did they?

hi sfc ret,
Nope, this one has the long hammer spur and the flat housing.
I think that I'm gonna pick up a Ballester, I didn't know the 1911 was as old as it is and I want to keep it nice.
