Well after about a month of working on different projects, I finally finished my MAS 49/56.
It was pretty much a try to get all the cosmoline out of the stock type job. Even after all that, there still is some left. I've baked it, used Whiting paste, Industrial Purpled it, then finally restained it using 2 coats of Minwax Cherry stain, then 3 coats of their Polyurethane. Then a quick rub with lemon oil. Armor All'd the buttpad.
Was able to find a replacement launcher site thru Numrich. Found a new complete cleaning kit thru WGA. Went thru various companies for more magazines....
SOG's good was just good $12.95
WGA's excellent was really fair-good $12.99
and Century's good was like new! $9.99 with an additional 10% off. So I got 4.
Didn't really do anything to the finish, because it is parkerized and until I get a tank big enough, I won't repark.

you guys let me know how they are when you get them please. I mailed my order in for two the end of last week. (I never thought to send my FFL to them before now)......I am expecting more mud and rust than firearm........

1. I purchased mine through AIM. It was like new unissued. I havent taken it out of the box since I got it. I think I'll go take it out to play this week though.
2. Yours looks great.

Looks good. Not having the ring for the grenade launcher on it makes the barrel seem longer. Kind of reminds me of an AR barrel for some reason. I think you did a very nice job.

Merci beaucoup.
I didn't need the ring, so I left it off, beside that's just another piece of metal that would scrape whatever parkerizing that's left.

Hi spinner,
Looks good! I still haven't gotten a semiauto and probably won't this month. Just got 5 more mosins and my wife said enough guns for now.
By the way, I was looking at a picture of your handiwork and decided to check out the url on the picture. Those toys are not C&R eligible! I had to try to explain that to my wife because she walked in as I had the site on the screen!

Nice work, like it!
My Mas 49/56 came a few weeks ago too, one of the EX from SOG, and it didn't appear to need much cleaning or work, just a basic milsurp degreasing and re-lube. BUT, I took it out in the sun to take some pictures and within seconds cosmo started boiling out of the wood. "Great," I thought, "another bout with Purple Power". But I like the wood's finish and don't want to totally bleach it out or ruin it, Purple Power can get rough on a stock sometimes. I refinished a G1 buttstock that was nasty and it came out fine, and I've treated many, extremely many guns to the point which I thought I'd ruin 'em (purple power, multiple bakings, one VZ-24 went through three weeks and two gallons of PP and four bakings!), but never have been able to simply draw out the cosmo without somewhat affecting the finish, requiring me to restain in some cases. Ideas?

Thanks, I remember how hot it can be when I use to be in Texas. How about just wrapping it up and leaving it in your car for a few days? That should leech out a lot of the cosmo and still preserve the finish.
