Am I missing something? I don't see M96s (or any Swede for that matter) on the BATF's list. Meaning that ONLY those weapons made prior to 1899 are C&R eligible? Bummer.
Why WOULDN'T a 1902 M96 be considered C&R?

Negative, your list is defective. M96 Swedes are C&R elligable. They just aren't so old as to not require a 4473 be filled out on them like pre 1891 weapons.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but are the Carl Gustafs models C&R? WHen I go to the BATF list at
http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/relics/
and search on "mauser," the closest match I find is "Mauser, rifles, bolt action and semiautomatic any caliber, commercially produced by Waffenfabrik Mauser, Oberndoff, Germany prior to 1945."
No mention of "Swedish Mauser", "Carl Gustafs", "Mauser model 1896", "6.5mm mauser", or anything that appears to describe a good old Swedish made mauser...
Thanks for your patience, I'm a C&R newbie.

Yes the Carl Gustaf's are C&R ok even though they aren't specifically called out on the ATF list. It's a small ring mauser of basically pre 1895 design. It's called a model 96 as that's when they (the Swedes) started building that configuration of the Masuer rifle. BTW there were some 96 Swedes made at the Obendorf plant but the Swedes provided the steel to the Germans as they felt the German steel was inferior to the Swedish steel! :D
The thing that makes a weapon C&R is that its over 50 years old. Most Swedes are built prior to 1945. The latest date I've ever seen on one is a Huskvarna (sp) arsenal rifle dated 1944, it's in my collection. Most of the Gustaf rifles are going to have dates prior to 1938 so they are a slam dunk for C&R eligibility based on years of age. Heck even the Ljungman AG42B is C&R and it's a semiauto gas opperated weapon.

Schuetzenman, thanks for the explanation. I do see where the ATF list disclaims "this is not an all-inclusive list" - and the 50 year rule is clearly spelled out in their "what makes a gun eligible" description.
You sir, are a gentleman! (Now off to place my order with Samco...)

Post some pictures of it when you get it! I always like seening the Sweds! A 38/96 with naval dial sight was my first C&R class weapon I collected. Even has the decal on the stock for the bullet type sight conversions.

hey, why can't I attach images? I had to post the img's url from the Gunbroker ad - so the pic will only work until Gunbroker takes the ad down.
Is there something I need to do in order to attach images from my hard drive? Or to edit my posts?
Down at the bottom of the screen, it tells me:
