Interested in purchasing a Olympic Arms AR-15 rifle in the 7.62x39 cal. Anyone have any problems w/ the rifle and how accessible are the parts? mags and etc?

A close friend has a Colt 7.62x39.
That thing has absolutely NO problems.
He dremmeled down the tops of his 30 round mags and they now load flawlessly.
I have shot it and I think you will be very happy with one.
I can't imagine any part giving you troubles.
I have several AR15s and I have never had any problems.
I am sure the 7.62 is as good.
Get a Colt!

Just be sure you can find mags and you can afford them.
Last I heard when looking at was was that they could get them for between $80.00 and 100.00 each.
Good luck,
Karsten

Thanks for the input. Any opinons on Olympic Arms? They seem to be the only manufacturer who currently has the AR-15 in that caliber postban. Robinson Arms is projected to include it in their line but will be $$.

My suggestion to you...
Is do what I do.
Buy a pre-ban gun and change the uppers.
You should be able to find a pre-ban Colt for 1100.00-1500.00.
I have seen the 7.62 upper on eBay sell for 600.00.
Plus you can get the 9mm.
Once you have a pre-ban lower you can do about any configuration.
However, stay away from the 11.5 inch and shorter.
The .223/ 5.56 needs more than 11 inches to be accurate.

Has anyone tried/used the 7.62x39 uppers from Model "1" Sales, Inc.

They have 16"C.A.R.'s , 20" E2's in both Pre-Ban and Post-Ban

Wished I seen that sooner, was looking for a 16"CAR postban but the dealer only had 20" barrels. Oh well, too late now.

Biggest problem is magazines. If you can find reliable mags then your in good shape.

Who makes that lower? I like MGI's lower but I don't need the interchangeablity feature (nor the $600+ price tag). I do like MGI's mag release button better than the one pictured. It is just like a 5.56 AR-15. Who else makes AR 15 lowers that take AK mags?

Here are some thoughts:
I own a Model 1 kit gun. The kit is built up on a RRA lower, with a chrome-lined barrel and M-4 handguards. The carbine is GREAT! Reliable (provided you observe certain magazine limitations!) and accurate as all hell! Using some Lapua 7.62X39 ammo that I picked up years ago...I don't know if you can even find the stuff anymore...the rifle will print right at 1" at 100m. And Model 1 Sales is excellent to work with. Very customer-oriented! They're great!
Mags ARE an issue...for the moment! Right now we are forced to use either some of the old (and often questionable) Frankenmags or any of several 10 round 'Clinton-era' mags. I have the ones offered by Model 1 Sales & they are extremely durable and reliable IF you don't try to push the 10 rnd limit...You can stuff up to 14 rounds into the mags. If you do, the rifle will CHOKE just about every time. Not sure why, thought I have my notions.
However, CProducts is just about ready to introduce a 25 rd. capacity magazine in 7.62X39. It has been in development for some time, but, based of the other offerings from CProducts, they will be dead-nuts reliable and well worth the wait! Again, CProducts is VERY customer-oriented!
Again, these are just my thoughts. YMMV!!!

Here's yet another thought--with the price of 7.62x39, you may want to own only 10 round mags!

'CProducts' is one of the best manufacturers of AR mags out there and absolutely the most customer-oriented. Check out their website or go over to ARFCOM, to the magazine forum and check out what the folks there have to say. I bought my son, who is deployed over to 'the sandbox' a dozen of their mags...they function flawlessly! How's this for a recommendation: I trust my son's life with the things!

:spissed: With the cost and shortage of 7.62 x 39. I'm going with 6.8 SPC. 6.8 brass is cheaper than 7.62 x 39

I'm not too sure that the pprice and shortage situation for the 7.62X39 will last all that long! That's also JUST my opinion! :dunno: On the flip side, 6.8 SPC stuff will likely remain fairly costly for the forseeable future. And that's more that just MY opinion! Still, the 6.8 is a GREAT round and'll do most anything you might reasonably ask of it! The range of the 5.56X45 with the punch of the 7.62X39. What's not to love? Best of luck to you with the project and keep us posted.
