Number6

I went to an informal range today and took a number of my C&Rs with me. I was particularly interested to crank up that 49/56 semi-auto I got from SOG.
For ammo, I took lots of the 7.5F on links, from WG&A and 5 rounds of the FM (or FOM?) commercial stuff.
If you're expecting a target accuracy report, there ain't one, but I'll explain: It was so bloody hot that it was difficult seeing through the sweat that was streaming down my face.
The mags were a bit rough to load because of the heavy new parkerizing. Anyone know how to slick that down?
OK. I checked to my right and warned the guy there to be aware of hot casings. I pulled the trigger and with a mighty roar sent that first round downrange. The guy to my right shrugged his shoulders and I then saw that the shell was missing half the rim, which was ripped off by the ejector. Had to get a cleaning rod and shove the case out. I think I'll need to get a chamber brush in there and do some polishing. I had some feed and ejection problems that I'm pretty sure are caused by the parkerizing.
Also got some good-natured ribbing about it being ugly (we already knew this) and the external clips that hold the mag. I told them I used those clips to hold sticky-notes for what is in the mags. Hah!
Gotta tell ya, this thing rocks! By the end of the 2nd mag it was crankin' pretty good. There's a lot of firepower with the 49/56. It seemed to shoot high at 100 yds., but I was going by dirt being kicked up at the object I was firing at as I adjusted my POA. I had the recoil pad on it, and it wasn't bad at all. The military ammo works very well. The Portugese commercial stuff, as has been reported, does not have the power to work the action, but I used it as the last 5 rounds before I changed rifles.
I'll eventually get it out to the county gun range so I can check accuracy on normal targets, at 50 and 100 yards.
My opinion of the re-arsenaled MAS 49/56 (as purchased from SOG) is a big thumbs up!
