I have two boxes of what is known as sterile 7.62x39 ammo, loaded by the U.S. Government for use in clandestine operations. The cartridge cases have no head stamp at all on them. It is in brown 20 round boxes such as the U.S. military uses for its ammo.

7th Fleet,

I don't doubt your word, because I have heard of this ammo before. But I do question the GOV's logic behind the idea, wouldn't the lack of any headstamp be a dead give away?

Why not just use some non US ammo?

Beats me.

This "sterile " ammo was loaded at either Lake City or Frankfort Arsenal in 1970 or 1971 for military aid to Cambodia. The lack of a headstamp theoretically prevented the US from being associated with the manufacture and supply of this ammo at the time. We made millions of rounds of this ammo, and some was even used for troop training here in the US. A full, original box of this ammo might fetch $20 from a collector who needs one to add to his collection. Not real scarce of an item but definately a piece of history!
