of your MAS 36? I took the wood off friday night and mine was made SA or AS 1945. I'm just wondering if it's possible mine at least served in WWII before shipping out elsewhere. Would be kind of neat to have one that served in WWII and Algiers or Indochine or all 3.

I have started on the first one. Date is "AS MAS 1945". All serial numbers match (except for the bolt). S/N has a script "L" with "124xx" for the number.
I can't recall exactly where I saw a diamond shape with either a "Z" or "N" in it.
On the trigger guard is stamped: "C.D.".
the bolt number is, "FH 60003". There is a ".7" next to one of the lugs.

I'll try to get to the other one next weekend.

On the second one, there is something painted on the lower part of the butt stock. It's been scraped off pretty well, but I hope to make out what it is. It's probably a number that they tried to remove before putting it in storage.
I have not seen an import stamp on the one I have apart. Did I miss it?

If it's on the stock it can be one of two things that I know of. If it's sling side and below the sling bar it probably was the serial # that was restamped above so that a 36/51 butt pad could be affixed (grenade launcher I'm thinkin') if it's bolt side there is a cartouche that is a circle within a circle. Vonmazur says there is a year or a date stamped in it. Mine doesn't have a year or date so it either wasn't stamped or has faded over time. Does that sound right?

No, I don't think that's it. The numbers were painted on using a stencil, but ther're too far gone to make them out, except for what could have been a 2. They're a little less than an inch high on the sling side, by the butt pad.
They're not really worth saving.

Don't know who worked on them, but it wasn't an armorer. All the slotted screws are really buggered up. Sheesh.
