I recently bought a WWII P-38 from FGS (a place with a GREAT selection of P-38s at resonable prices). I'm looking for a similar supplier of WWII vintage 1911s. Is there one out there?
Thanks,

you will find that most of the military 1911A1s would have been made durning the war years....and refurbished a few times...finding one that is reasonable priced is going to be harder then finding them. ithica, remington rand are the ones that are the most common. and unless you want to give up your first born and the house, US&S and singer are for the serious collectors. a shooters grade refurbished M1911A1 are out there, but the problem is finding one at a decent price
check the shotgun news, or you could try gunsamerica.com you could post WTB on the internet

patients and perseverance is the key, I bought a Ithica at a local show for 700. and a couple years later a remington rand for 800.

Which show you buy those at? Medina? I'm originally from Cleveland and am back there every once in a while. The shows areound here aren't exactly *loaded* with 1911s. :(

I bought the ithaca 4 or 5 years ago.....it was at berea, right before they shut it down. the remington one I believe at the Akron show 2 years later. both were private sale ones. I'll agree with you they aren't that many of them, but every now and then I'll see one or 2 on the table...most of them want WAY TOO much for it, up in the 1,000 + range. I just bought a SUIT sight for my FAL, at the last berea show for 160 dollars.

I'll let you know when I get it. Not sure what I'm getting...told my family I wanted an ac 43/44 or a byf 44 for my b-day. They asked enough info so as to give themselves away :) I can't wait!
