Since the general discussion forum seems to be messed up, I thought I might get the answer here. What's the ballistic difference? I'm trying to decide which scope to buy for a VEPR .308 and the Russian scopes are for 7.62x54 while the Springfield scopes are for .308 Win. (The BDC's that is) Anyway, does anyone have a ballistics chart on the 7.62x54?

The 7.62x54R is roughly between the 7.62x51mm NATO and .30-06 rounds, ballistically speaking. Here's a comparative ballistics chart, but the measurements are all metric. :^(

Out to about 250-300 meters, the differences in the average point of impact are close enough that the average shot groups in both chmaberings in the most popular loads, overlap and in fact different loads of the same cartridge may very more than between these two cartridges as a whole. I checked the above link and found only load data/cartridge specs, although this is very helpful info nonetheless.

Here is a good source I have found for actual measured ballistic flights and bullet drop specs of these various cartridges and other current military rounds, measured at each range in 50-meter increments.
