Well, I think they do match. If you figure "C5" as a prefix, the receiver just has the rifle's prefix and the last 2 digits of the serial number.

1. I usually wipe all the excess off then I bake the parts at 150 degrees on a piece of tinfoil. Of course when you take it out you need to get a potholder. After about 10 mins the cosmo will run off like liquid. Wipe off the excess then let cool down.

2. You can also use a solvant like mineral spirits to clean it but Ive found the oven the most effective

3. On the wood I do essentially the same. Bake wipe, Bake wipe, until I get all the cosmo off. The stock can hang out the doo as it doesnt take much heat to melt this stuff.

4. Send you wife out of the house for about 2 hours.:D

The stock I'm going to use the old wrap in rags and leave it in the car for a week routine.
I finished cleaning all the green cosmo off and the bore looks brand new!!
pretty cool looking weapon.

Looks like to bought a whole lot of cosmo... is there a rifle under there

Actually looks like you will have a beutiful Italian girl under there, just remember she likes to be rubbed all over first then she will perform for you ;) :bye:

Yes, all my Century/SOG Carcanos have looked like this when I got them.

However, that gooky cosmoline is a blessing considering that once she's all clean, the metal surfaces are really nice. I have seen some C&R rifles (Vet bringbacks and such) that have been in people's storage for at least 30 years that are rusted, pitted, and not near as good of condition as these rifles once cleaned up.

If you ever want to sell/trade that rifle, let me know.
