Here's the ufixem 91/24 Carano I'm working on. Built on an 1891 Carano in 1900. The conversion to a 91/24 was done at Terni in 1926.

The stock started getting its first of many coats of BLO/tung oil over the weekend. You can see from the mismatched coloring the part of the forend I had to repair. I cut a piece of similar type wood from an M44 and glued it into position. Then drilled 3 small holes and epoxied 3 small metal pins in for added strength. A bit overkill for a non stressed part, but I don't like fixing the same part twice. I'll stain the mismatched area to match the existing wood which I'm unable to lighten up any more. Hey, you'd be a little dark too if you were a tad over a hundred years old! The barrel/receiver are a nice brownish/plum color. The shiny disk on the site is the replacement button I made. I still need to color it to match the sites original finish. I should have this one together in a few more days.

As of last night, the Carano is done. I'll take pics and post when I bum a camera again (after restoring this last batch of mosins/enfields). I like the looks of the rifle, but as far as working the action, it sucks. Far from smooth and down right difficult at times. I may shoot it a few times, but I got it mostly because I lived in Italy for 3 years and wanted a few military rifles from them for my WWII collection.

Awesome job, looks great. How did the finsihed forearm come out? From the pics, it looks pretty close.

I tried a number of different stains to get the repaired piece of the forearm to match, but it's still noticeably lighter then the rest of the wood. I even rubbed black paint into it, but it still lightened up after rubbing tung oil into it later. I can live with the mismatch as it's only slight.

Awesome. What brand/type/name stain did you use to colour the wood? I need some.
