Are stock Bushmaster rifles not able to bump fire ? Mine just will not cut loose. Do they need a slight modification or lighter target trigger? It is fun to be able to bump a mag every once in a while. any suggestions? Thx

"Bump Firing " is a technique to fire a semi-auto very rapidly like a full auto. Basicallyyou push the rifle forward while holding trigger stationary the recoil action will then fire it . Not real accurate but fun! Try a search on "Bumping" and you will find a lot of info and even video on bumping .

More than likely your Bushmaster shooting a .223 round is lacking in recoil ( kick ) which is neccesary in order to "Bump" fire any semi-automatic rifle. The recoil of each round provides the rearward force that is required to effectively cycle the next round thru.
Most larger calibers ( 7.62 etc ) have alot more recoil , thus making it easier to bump off a 30 round clip in 4-5 seconds.
Hope this helps.

Have no problems bumping an SAR-1. Tried my Bushy, no joy. Took out my 5.56x45 SAR-3 and finally got it to tri-burst while attempting to bump. Pulled out the XM15 E2S 20" H-bar. no joy still. Can't seem to do it with the AR. It just has so little recoil. But that is what makes it so fun to shoot. Just ran another 180 rounds today with no rifle related problems. Last 2 outings I ran 300 rounds each through it with no problems. Just had to say that because there are many who call ARs "jam-o-matics". Mine is fine!

I can do the bump with my PWA 20 inch hbar and my lightwieght sporter. I do mine from the shoulder, have you tried to do it from your shoulder?

Just from the hip, but I will try from the shoulder next time out. Thanks for the tip.:rockin:

You generally either need a super lightweight AR (like a Carbon 15) or a trigger job to bump easily with the AR.
As noted, the recoil is much less, and the trigger reset more positive than on the AK types.

The PWA was the 1st thing I've ever bump fired. I did it on accident really. I have'nt even tried to bump from the hip. I get ak's and ar's to do it from my shoulder. As well as a M1A. Now, that is fun! I even get my 24 inch heavy barrel olympic to go a little bit, but not one of those guns were new when I got them so it could be that therte was some trigger work done to them, or maybe they are well broke in or something?
