It would seem that .308 is drying up. Anyone
know of a supplier who has good, accurate .308 in stock? NATO or NATO-spec preferred. Thanks in advance!... Tomac
Tomac,
I've had good results with Georgia Arms .308 in my Galil. It's reloaded ammo, but as my Galil is pretty rough on brass I don't reload it myself. How's the VEPR compare for extraction?
One thing I do like is they sell .308 tracer rounds, I always put a couple in the bottom of my mags to signal when it's time to change them. I guess with a VEPR and a 5 rounder you don't lose count too often, with a 20 it's a bit more of a challenge when you're ripping loose. If it's any consolation, I actually bought a 5 round mag for mine, it cost more than a 20 rounder did. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

Actually, VEPRs use the legal maximum 10-round magazines. But they cost $35 EACH!!!!! Supply and DUMB-and. (Just how many East-German mag's WERE there when the wall came down? ENTERPRISE sells them for $6 each)
My mistake, I saw my fists VEPR at a show this last weekend, and ASSumed it came with a 5 rounder since it's being marketed as a "sporting rifle" and most states prohibit hunting with hi cap mags.
I still got you beat on price though, Galil mags cost $40 for a twenty rounder and $50 for a 5 rounder over ten years ago. Best price for 20's nowadays is $80, if you can find them. I've never seen them for sell at a gunshow. Also, 5-round SAIGA 12 ga mags are $50 nowadays, and I don't think Kalashnikov-USA is importing the 8-round SAIGA mags.
