I have heard from a local gun dealer that 7.62x39 will no longer be
imported. Is this true? I have heard rumors online and off.
Thank you.

No, this is a rumor. There is a potential ban proposed before Congress to prevent the manufacture, importation, distribution, and sale of hollowpoint ammo, which is the most popular type of imported Russian ammo. This rumor's been around a while. I contacted the NRA about this and was told it's a rumor. Sellier and Bellot is importing millions of rounds of 7.62x39 monthly and selling them. Federal Cartridge company is producing inexpensive FMJ 7.62x39 with reloadable brass and boxer primed through their American Eagle brand name. Odds are, the hollowpoint ban is going to fail and you can still get your good Russian cheap ammo. I have a 1000-rounds hoarded away of the Russian hollowpoint and have an order in with CheaperThanDirt for a 1000 rounds of S&B FMJ. It should be noted that certain type of Russian .223 may be not allowed in due to the fact that their Sporting ammo is steel-core and there is a beurocratic malaise going on whether or not it will be classified as 'armor piercing' which from the impressions I get from a few places is illegal for citizens to own. Anyway, the ammo ban rumor is an oldie and from fairly reliable sources, it's just a rumor.

Thanks for the response.
Since your on the subject, I’ve also heard that the american made 7.62x39 is not the same size as the european 7.62x39…..is that true?
I find it hard to believe but stranger things have happened.

I dont know if it is the same exact size but it is close enough I know a lot of people who shoot the winchester and federal stuff flawlessly. Now I know there was a lot of talk about the bullet itself and its interchangability with the american/nato 7.62/308. Unfortunately Russian bullet is .311 and the NATO bullet is .308. cant swap em I understand.
