Is Chinese Polytech really good or something, because I just went with a friend to freaking "JUMBO SPORTS" (a huge, stupid, sporting goods store) and watched him buy Winchester "Super-X" for $9.95 per 20 rnds. Why should we buy your ammo for $.50 a dog when we can buy bulk for around $.13?

I'm not trying to be critical, but merely wondering if this is especially good ammo - I have no idea...

Must be steel core that is the only 7.62 that I know that demands that price

AFX, excective order by your president banned all importation of steel core ammo.
Read that as no more ever again. What is in country is legal to sell, trade, and give away by non ffl license holders.
Get you one box and a 1/8 steel plate. Shoot plate at 100 yards with super-x check out the nice dents. Then shoot it with steel core. Then you will see whats "really good or something" like holes in the plate.
I saw steel core tested on 20/20 television show it went thru car door both sides of bullet proof vest that crash dummy had on. Then thru other door and 2-6" sapplings. Bullets were not recovered.

JA, thanks for the info - I am familiar with steel core, and yes, it is a vicious bullet. When I left that post, Aug did not mention anything about steel core - he edited/added that after my post. Heh heh, please don't think I am a fan of Winchester 7.62x39 - I certainly am not, it's a rip off, and I don't personally think it has the same power behind it as forign 7.62x39.

Anyhow, are you SURE it is still legal to own and shoot the PREBAN steel core? I've heard several stories, myself. Anyone else know for certain?

I am aware of no federal law that prohibits you, as a non-FFL holder, from selling steel core 7./62 x 39 ammo to anyone (who is legally able to buy any ammo). Insofar as state law goes, some states probably do
regulate steel core ammo. I don't know which states that would be -some have AP ammo laws that only pertain to so called Teflon coated
bullets, some to handgun ammo that actually penetrates certain objects; state laws are all over the place. And of course I am sure that there are many localities with laws on the topic - I haven't even tried to keep up on that.

Department of the Treasury Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms
Washington, DC 20226-001
February 2, 1994
OPEN LETTER TO ALL FEDERAL FIREARMS LICENSEES
The purpose of this letter is to advise you that EFFECTIVE
IMMEDIATELY 7.62 x 39mm steel core ammunition has been
reclassified as armor piercing ammunition AND Federal Firearms
Licensees, except type 11 licensees, are no longer authorized to
import or commercially sell 7.62 x 39mm steel core ammunition.
Existing stocks of 7.62 x 39mm steel core ammunition may only be
exported or sold to law enforcement or government agencies.
Section 921(a)(17)(B) defines armor piercing ammunition as:
"the term armor piercing ammunition means a projectile or
projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is
constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other
substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel,
iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium.
Such term does not include shotgun shot required by Federal or
State environmental or game regulations for hunting purposes, a
frangible projectile designed for target shooting, a projectile
which the Secretary finds is primarily intended to be used for
sporting purposes, including a charge used in an oil and gas
well perforating device."
Over the past several years, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and
Firearms (ATF) has allowed the importation and commercial resale
of 7.62 x 39mm steel core ammunition based on the fact that
there were no handguns in commercial channels capable of
chambering this ammunition. Investigations conducted by ATF
have concluded that such handguns are now commercially available.
Therefore, you are advised that continued importation and/or
resale of 7.62 x 39mm steel core ammunition will be considered a
willful violation of law and regulations and could result in
criminal prosecution and the revocation of your Federal FirearmsLicense.
If you have any questions concerning this matter, contact the
Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch at (202) 927-8320.

Hi AUG,
You are correct in saying that any non FFL person can sell and own Chinese steel core but at $00.50 a round it is hardly worth the money!
Take care, OUT

I have been selling it at the local flea market for $4.00 per 10 round clips. Maybe I was selling it too cheap after looking at your prices! But i am not selling anymore anyway. It is too hard to get at a decent price .Some Russian steel core ammo came in in 10 round clips. It is ap ammo also. i have some but I better not sell it. Cant even find the Russian ammo of this type anymore either.

it here and other websites and people are

care all..
