Does anyone have any opinions on the Russain Hollow point ammo that Cheaper-than-Dirt is currently selling? Do you have any feeding problems? Failure to fire? It says non-corrosive but how about he primers? I've heard the russian stuff has corrosive primers? Thanks

I have heard that most of the commonly available surplus ammo is corrosive by western standards. Russian being among the worst even the non corrosive stuff. I take no chances my self, cleaning the bore, flushing the reciever with WD40 and coating it all up with CLP. Just in case. Best of luck

Don't know about the corrosiveness of russian hollowpoint, but I can tell my personal experience on how it feeds. It worked flawlessly on a Polytech sidefolder and two Hungarian Sa-85's (all have stamped receivers). It would not feed at all in a Polytech Legend (milled receiver)I own, every round would snag on the feed ramp. Hope that helps.

I have just started using a few boxes of the russian stuff. Most of my previous experience is with German FMJ, which I highly recommend though there is some talk about corrosiveness. I have never had the Russian HPs jam in either my stamped MISR or my milled SLR it feeds quite reliably.

Hello. Russian JHP works great for me in my SLR95 milled receiver. The box says it's noncorrosive but it never hurts to clean your rifle after every use. I have 2,000 rounds horded of the Russian HP. Its lacquered steel case seals the primer and powder very well and is very rust resistant if stored in a container where it won't get knocked around and the lacquer knocked of dinged. You can also go hunting legally with HP, but from what I understand, you can't hunt with FMJ. It also feeds very well for me and fires reliably.

I've shot thousands of rounds of the Russian hollowpoint out of my SA93 (predecessor to the SLR 95) with no trouble. I've even failed to clean it once or twice and have had no corrosion problems. As long as the ammo has gold colored primers you should be in good shape. Older Russian hollowpoint with the grey colored primers is corrosive. I have some of that lying around but it is several years old and I haven't seen it for sale since.

It's all I use in my MAK90, and it works flawlessly, never had a misfire or jam up on feeding or extraction. The only thing to look out for is, as mentioned by someone else, the primers. If they're a gray color, then they are likely old production and may have mercuric primer compounds, which both degrade over time and are also corrosive. Shoot these first, and then be sure to clean your bore thoroughly to clean out the salts and residues.

The Russian HP has sealed primers, steel cases and a laquered finish to protect against corrosion. Most of this stuff was manufactured 'recently', so should have a very long storage life (like 15-20 years, under normal conditions, much more if you take care of it).

Enjoy it while the stuff's still cheap!
