Any reliable sources for AK (7.62*39) ammo? The local dealers have gone nutty asking uppwards of $300 a case (1000) for Russian hollowpoint. Blame it on y2k.

Try Gulf Coast Ammo. I got mine from them a few weeks ago, cost me $127/case delivered. Their order# is: 1-800-725-6578
Their info# is: 1-409-962-5822
Hope this helps!... Tomac

Hello Jimbob+,
Two weeks ago I ordered a 960 round case of Russian HP packed in sealed bricks of 120 rounds for $109.00 + shipping from Classic Arms. They also had FMJ.
1-800-383-8011 http://www.classicarms.org/
Give them a call.
Also I found original Chinese trigger parts at TAPCO, 1-800-554-1445 www.tapco.com
These parts are drying up so get yourself a set of spare trigger group parts just in case. I paid $49.00 for a 9 piece set, double the price that they were just one month ago.
Hope you find what you need, OUT

Thanks, I have been off for a while do to some password problems. I do need to order at least one case of ammo. As for trigger parts I really should consider getting a set in a jam I guess I could strip one gun for the other. My AK budget is limited, mainly because I have been trying to scrape enough together to get one of those Century arms G3 US part hecklers. I have it on good authority that our freinds the carebears at the BATF have told Century they cant build any more. Any information would be appreciated.

Hello Jimbob+,
I know that web site is a joke but I did get the ammo in about six days to my door to Las Vegas, all the way from N.C. Order some.
They also sold it in 1000 round cases but I wanted to see the sealed battle packs and they look good!
Take care and get that order in.
You might also try J&G in Prescott AZ. 1-520-445-9650 www.jgsales.com But they require a signed statement before they will ship. Classic Arms approves you over the phone, OUT

One more thought,
I have heard that those new G-3 guns are very loose and not worth the $$$$$. Check one out before you invest in one and please let me know what you find out, thanks.

Thanks, I think I will call them up tommorow. Maybe have a case of FMJ and HP delivered. Given that I shoot on a 1000 acre peice of private land with a backstop I tend to prefer FMJ. I would want HP if I did range shooting.

As for the G3s. I looked at one a while back and choose the SLR in the rack next to it at the dealer. But the G3 did impress me, it seemed very tight and the bolt cycled freely. THe finish was a little amiss though, you could see the scars on the barrel where the bayo lug had been removed but overall the gun had a nice feel to it. Though the ~$700 price seems a little high for essentially a parts gun. But I do love those .308 cartridges as I have noted in so many posts in this forum. Drawback the mags are pretty salty compared to AK mags.

Give me some feedback if you come across any. I am curious how consistent they are from one gun to another (incase I have to order one). Century arms is not known for there consistency, for example in another thread under Norinco (mak 90 history) there is a back and forth conversation about their bolts in there MISR guns. They used such a variety of parts it seems, pretty much what they had on hand. I have seen them with egyptian bolt assemblies, chinese, and even eastern block. Strange....... Though with those guns if you pick a good one they shoot very well, at least mine does being nearly as accurate as my SLR. I cant really complain about the gun for what I paid for it.

Just got off the phone with Gulf Coast Ammo. They said they just received another shipment of 7.62x39. For $114 + 24 shipping I could get 1000rds to Seattle.
