1. The metal on this is beautiful. I tested it in the back on my rig the other day and it fires fine but kicks like a damn mule. This is not the standard M38 rifle but rather the 91TS or short version weapon they converted.

2. The wood is major repair. After I cleaned it there was nothing left of any finish. It was all dirt and grime. the wood was bone dry I assume from service in the desert. I had to dowel and glue the upper handguard back together as it was split in two and peg the back of the buttstock back on. The glue is setting up now and should be ready to tung oil this evening.

3. The wood is a beechwood color and should be pretty when put back together.

Pic of the 8mm on the bottem before the repairs began.

4. You can see the two reenforcing bolts on the stock in front of the receiver and behind the end of the bolt. The buttstock was completely seperated above the rear swivel held on by the buttplate and the upperhandguard was split in two.

Neil,

I bet it DOES kick like a mule. How many of these were made in 8mm? Yours more than likely saw a lot of service, maybe even at the Desert Fox's hands in person. Of course on the TV show he usually used other weapons... LOL

I trust that you'll show some pics when it's all squared away!!

I can't wait to see the finished product. Hopefully you and HerrDoc will be able to get some 8mm clips.

First coat of Tung Oil and drying. ( It took three coats actually before it stopped soaking it up like a sponge.

Neil,

Is that red cedar in the background? Man, that would make one beautiful stock. Of course cedar is brittle. Still, how many cedar-stocked rifles do you see these days?

That stock is looking mighty nice.
