Does anyone know where I can find any different brand of 5.45x39mm ammo? I'm in the US and the only ammo I've seen is that TCW stuff and my rifle doesn't shoot very well it. Thanks

Try Century Arms they had RWS hollow point I ordered some in march. It was $15.99 for 50 round box.

Thanks J.A.
Where is that stuff made at? Is it steel case or brass and what kind of primers does it use (berdan). Kinda of expensive but I take a peak, that TCW stuff is too inconsistent.

Steel case, berdan primed, I´ve heard that they made that
stuff in the early 90´s for the Swiss marked because they banned the import of AP ( steel core ) ammo back in 91 ( and all 5.45 we got back then was Soviet military steel core ball, except for a few tracers )

Great stuff btw...my SSG 82 loves that stuff http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

WHAT?? 16 for 50?? We had to pay around ONE Dollar each round!! I bought a box of 1000 when the price dropped to 60c!
Right now we have some Russian ammoand of course the really good Mesko brand from Poland ( though RWS still pops up from time to time )

I saw there ad in Shotgun News it was $26 per 50. I was going to order one box for testing, but when I called them it was on sale for $15.99 so I ordered 10 boxes. At $26 a box it can't be a fast selling item.
They will put it back on sale sooner or later.

Yeah, with my budget I can't feed a rifle at .50 a round. I have trouble feeding my MISR and that is about the cheapest rifle to shoot thats out there. I'll see if I can get a box or two and see if my rifle likes it then save some for a rainy day. Thanks for all the help. Swissone from what I understand your country has very different ideas on gun ownership and believes alot more in its citizens being able to be responsible for themselves instead of having to have the government tell them how, when, where, and who. The 5.45 round is becoming available at a very bad time for imported firearms so I don't know how it's going to go. My WUM-2 is the only 5.45 rifle I have ever seen at any gun show or for sale on the web. Thanks for all the help.

I don't mean to flame but I think that owning a 5.45mm weapon is not a wise choice considering the political climate, availability, selection and cost---- all seem to be minuses (-).

That's the same thing a friend of mine said in 1985 when I bought my first SKS.

I share some of the others concerns on this caliber. This is one reason I havent bought a 5.45 weopon yet. No "legitamate sporting weopon" (I know political lingo) uses this caliber. Overall very few guns use this caliber and to my knowledge non of them are US (at least ruger, colt and others have made weopons in 7.62*39 and american commerical manufacturers make this caliber currently). Though right now it seems cheap enough at 149.95 (Cole I believe).
