1. Actually I made one today. I took a 6.5 clip and stretched it to accept the 8mm shell casing, then I put five rounds in it and pushed into the mag. It accepted it but the clip sat to high and the bolt wouldnt close. I dremeled the back down to expose the shell casing and then dremeled the rest of the length of the clip to be lower then the bolt sliding over it. Then a set of visegrips to adjust the bend to keep the shell in the clip and the rest is history. It cycles perfectly.

2. I shot five rounds at 50 yards and got 3" groups with fixed sights. Nice rifle.

glad to hear that it works... I had never heard of an 8mm carcano till you started talking about it... I figured that you would never find clips for it, but leave it to the great NEILWEST to make his own :D :bye:

1. Aw Shucks, as I kick my foot with my head down. Thanks.

2. This is the clip as it falls out of the bottem of the mag once the last shell is ejected.

1. Necessity is the mother of invention. It took about one hour to fashion this clip. One must be patient.

question????
ok when you load a clip and pit it in the weapon and fire a round or 2. does the clip stick out the magazine? or then all the rounds are finished does it come out?
do you need a clip to shoot these or can you load them round on top of round?
I'm still learning alot about these so bare with me guys.

1. the clip holds the rounds in this case five of them. The sping you see in the magwell pushed them up. When you push the loaded clip down it will seat on a catch you can see inside. The spring is pushed down creating tension on the rounds upward. Each round is stripped off the clip and the next one is pushed upward until all are ejected. Then the clip itself will fall out of the bottem as shown in the last picture.

Right! John Garand copied the Mannlicher clip design (which the Carcano employs) for his rifle project, and modified it.

Carcano purists don't like it, but many gun collectors still refer to the Carcano as the Mannlicher-Carcano, mainly because of the magazine/clip system it employs. It was designed by the late great Ritter Von Mannlicher and copied by Salvatore Carcano.

I find loading in a Carcano to be much faster and easier than bolt actions requiring a stripper clip, btw.

Another interesting tidbit for our new group of Carcano-Hounds - the 7.35 Italian that the M38 was originally designed for is essentially identical to a 308 (7.62 Nato), and probably an inspiration for the 308!
