Several years ago a ammo dealer was selling 762x39 Ap for,if I remember correctly about 40 cents apiece. I bought 12 rounds and still have it . I never saw anymore before or after that day. I am just keeping it and have wondered if anyone else has run across this stuff. This is truly the real AP and I wish i had bought more but I am a cheapscate when it comes to ammo. Anyone else have any or have shot it?

I have ran across it and shot some 7.62x39 API rnds before. The price are high, 10rnds for 21.95. Don't expect great thing out of a 7.62x39 API round, but it will out perform steel core ammo.
Just remember that steel core ammo are not AP! I saw an ad in an auction that stated: it will punch through armor vest. True but so does a lead core bullet. Some dumbass pay $130 for 100rnds of steel core bullet.

Orland 5, This ammo is too rare to shoot. When did you buy yours? I should have loaded up on it at the price I paid because i have not seen any except that one time at a show in maryland several years ago. Yes, i know that the old steel core stuff is not real Ap and people are paying too much for it.

Sorry for the late reply. I was out of town for the weekend.
Well I bought those rnds a long time ago (1980s). When I bought those rnds, the going rate was 10-15 cent I think. Now its over 2 buck for one rnd if you can get them.
My friend father own a farm. We shoot all type of ammo back then in his father farm. Tracer/Inc rnds where my favorites.
I don't have those types rnds anymore. Wish I have kown about it back then.
Give me your email and we talk more about rnds.

Maybe I am wrong but I was under the impression that 7.62x39 steel core ammo was illegal to sell anymore. Or is just illegal to import it.

Virginian, if memory serves then it's illegal to import or to sell AP at *retail* but it's still legal to own and sell to private individuals. HTH...

The BATF stated in their letter to FFL holders that it is no longer legal for FFL holders to sell steel core 7.62x39 cartridges
The letter makes no mention of anyone else purchasing or selling steel core 7.62.
Individuals can freely trade this stuff, but not FFL holders. Your state may have other restrictions over and beyond the Feds', regarding posession of AP ammunition. best to check your local and state laws to be sure.
There is no great advantage to using steel
core 7.62x39 ammunition, so why bother paying the inflated prices and risking the stigma of using "Armor Piercing" ammunition???
