I received a carcano rifle today and the bolt is VERY stiff and scratchy in it. also i dont know if this is the right bolt for this rifle. It is a longer carcano. model 81. with the short sights.
the bolt in the rifle is curved. is this the right one?

1. If Im not mistaken the bolt you need for this is the straight bolt. This shouldnt make any difference other then originality as Ive used parts from the straight bolt for my M38's before. I does sound however like a bolt mismatch. I would order another from Numrich just to make sure.

Is the bolt and the chamber loaded with cosmoline? That will make it stiff...

As was written, the original bolt for all M 91/41 rifles was curved. The perceived stiffness may just be due to the unfamiliar (for you ?) feeling of the ejector riding in the bolt groove (perfectly normal); however, it could also be due to the bolt lug hanging up on the left receiver wall (very rare quirk, but can happen).
Try to measure with a caliper the width of the split rear receiver bridge, where the bolt handle passes through. Even minor deformations will afflict the whole bolt behaviour especially in its frontal (bolt head) part.
