Century has 98 type stocks for $16. Will they fit a 03?

I would be of the opinion that they should as the 03's were large ring Mausers.

Well i thought i would take a before picture. The rifle next to the new turk stock that i got off of gunbroker for 25.00 buck's, is the complete one with no crack's.The next one has a duffle bag cut.I might be able to salvage it.But it need's an upper handguard. These rifle's are filty dirty with a heavy coat of dust on them.I have seen turk stock's for sale in the shotgun new's.But i can't remember who was selling them.

My pair came in last night as well. Both were complete with bolts, cleaning rods, and even slings. Very dry and dirty as aliceinChains noted. I'd rate the bores as G to G+ but dark. Should clean up well though. Only damage or missing items found was one slightly cracked handguard, one broken safety (found it snapped in two in the box), and one missing front site blade. Otherwise these babies are complete and in good shape. No real finish left though the receivers do have a fairly nice patina to them. Lot's of Arabic marking and numbers on the various parts. They were a steal 17 bucks a piece!:) Check out the Tiger Stripe on the bottom one! The picture doesn't do it justice. Can't wait to refinish it.:D

aliceinchains, retvet....
Congratulations! I didn't know they came with slings. I hope when mine arrive on Tuesday, they'll be as nice as yours.
Good job on the pics guys.
Looks like a lot of fun ahead.
Jericho:
1938's are also Large Ring Mausers with a small ring barrel shank. So that is a possibilty they might fit.

Awesome Guys. I'm glad you got a shooter out of it AIC. RetVet, minus your Albinanian, you seem to have regular good luck and it seems like it's carried the day again

I do seem to have my best luck when it comes to ufixems (usually anyway;)). The Albanian is headed back to Aim today. Chris said he'd pick me out a replacement. He too said it was a definate 2 when he looked over the pictures. Hey, stuff happens. Now I get to wait a few weeks to see what my next Mr. Albanian looks like.

Guinny,
You should'nt let that one bad experience with the M91/30's turn you away from u-fix-em's.
At $17.00 ea, they a good gamble and less expensive then the Grade 3 Turks from SOG.
Look at it this way, if you did get some bad ones again, think about how your post count here will increase. :)
Try a few while they still have some.

RetVet, your Turk looks like a reworked 1893 Mauser. Note the bolt stop, on the left side of the receiver. That was used to put pressure on the stripper clip to hold it in place.
here is my 1983 Turk

That is typical of the 1903 turk zouave.

Looks like I need to do some homework on these Turk mausers. Definately some interesting variations out there.

Very interesting. Now that I think about it, Schuetzenman said once that the Turks were constantly updating their rifles to the latest model.

If I remember my history correctly, that is true. They would have a contract for so many, then during the run, if something new camealong, they would have that newer version fulfill the rest of the contract.

LPSpinner this is true but REDSTAR quotes: Century has 98 type stocks for $16. Will they fit a 03?
And I took that as a K98 stock not a 1938 stock... and the K98 was a large ring reciever with a large ring barrel... Are you saying that the K98 stock is used on the 1938

My luck I'd get 3 beautiful rifles minus the bolts and I wouldn't be able to find those. No I'm quite satisifed with my Albanina

They might but what difference will that make with respect to how the barreled action fits in a GEW stock? Large ring is the part that counts in fitting the milled out recess.:D

Yes I have said it. Go back to my Pick of the Week on Turks for a refresher course on these bang-sticks.
RetVet has a 1903 in the picture for sure. You're photo of the 1898 shows the small ring that flares up to the dimesions of the large ring stock with a metal ferrule. Originally those earlier Mausers the Turks had would have looked more like the Swedish or other small ring Mausers.

Yeah, I see the flare now. Funny how I didn't notice that earlier!

Here are the two 1903's I got after being cleaned and refinished. The striping doesn't stand out in the photo as well as it really is, though the area along the center of the stock does have it weakly. The top one also exhibits some striping, but's seen along the bottom of the rifle. Both headspaced ok with a field gauge after swapping the bolts. What the heck, they weren't matching anyway!
