I want to know were to get the best price and quality. I want Colt pre-ban AR-15 30 round mags. I want new ones. I will also look at the USGI ones too. Thanks guy! You all have been great on this subject. Any sources will be appreciated.

There's actually no such thing as a "Colt" magazine, since they've never produced them. Colt buys/bought their magazines from a USGI contractor, and had their floorplates put on 'em.

If you demand NIW, ammoman.com has them for sale in decent quantities at reasonable prices, and used at acceptable prices. You can also check the auction websites where there's usually plenty of mags for sale.

If you demand the pony on the floorplate, you'll pay $10 more on average - for the same magazine, but if that's what you want, and you've got the cash, go for it.

I've got USGI 30rd mags for sale at $15 each plus actual shipping costs - but they're not NIW, and range from 50% to 75% of original finish. No cracked feedlips, all function fine, various manufacturers.

WTS I have 12 mag usa 30 rounders NIW, two used usgi 30 rounders, and 12 used isreali orlites for sale. the USGI and ORLITE function perfectly, the mags usa work well but I only would use them at the range, Not Tora Bora, Unless you put gov. green followers in. with the government followers I have not had a jam. Looking for 10 bucks each and shipping. I also have an Ace Limited ak side folder for a stamped ak. fits norinco perfecto. cost 150. looking for 100 plus shipping. email sosua69@aol.com

Stay away from USA mags the follwers aren't the problem it is just all around poor quality . I bought a few and took them to the range loaded the first one up and emptied it dowm range real quick then I reloaded it ,as soon as I did this I noticed the feed lips were bending straight up . I then tried my other ones to find it is a common problem . Save your money and buy GI mags or if you are looking for range mags the Orlites will work just watch for cracked feed lips .

thanks guncrzy,
I have been told to stay away from them, but now I know why.
I am saving for the Knob Creek gun shoot.

I've used orlites and thermolds without any problems. I prefer them to USGI mags by far. You can drive over Thermolds without any damage, but try that with an aluminum mag... :p

I bought 5 USGI mags at the gun show this weekend and they were all NIW. Three were newer ones with the green follower and 2 had black followers.

So I bought 2 new replacement followers. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE FAKE GREEN FOLLOWERS. THEY HAVE THE FRONT ANTI-TILT LEG THAT IS CURVED AND THEY ARE NOT IN GOVERNMENT SPEC.
They should be true and straight up and down just like the middel tab.

Just thought I would tell you guys to look out for this if you UP GRADE you mags. Tell all you know about this.
