View Full Version : 7.62x39 case damage due to extraction
I have fired only steel cases through my ak and on each case there is a dent..... the case probably hits the cover on extraction.
Can this be solved?
I want to reload at some stage but does not know whether the damnage to the brass cases will provide a problem.
How many times can brass be reloaded?
My first attempt at reloading 7.62x39mm for a SKS was with 150rds once fired PMC brass. The brass had been fired in a AK rifle and had the ding on it. This was no problem and the 50 or so I could find were reloaded several times. The cases required trimming after the 2nd firing. All these reloads were fired in SKS's so the ding was straighted out when fired in the SKS. I was working up a deer hunting load with Hornady 123gr soft points. The rest were used by myself and friends for hunting so none of the brass was recoved in the field.
Valmet made a rubber covered metal clip that slid onto the receiver cover of their AK type rifles to slove the case ding problem.
A U shaped piece of sheet metal with some bicycle inner tube glued onto it and slid onto the receiver cover should prevent the ding on the brass.
I have tried for the last several years to locate one of the Valmet ejection port buffers for sale without any luck.
