Ok, the BBT dropped of the first 3 Turk 1903 u-fix-em's today. The order was kinda disappointing compared to AIC and RetVet's orders. But hey that's part of the game. Hopefully the next 5 will be better. I may have to order an additional 5 more, only cause I want to have more of something then Neil does. :)

Some observations I made. These barreled actions will not fit in a Turk 1938 stock. The action is too short. The rear sight seems to be a little larger then the cut out on the handguards. On the two stocks, it seems they are using the same Buttplate and rear sling holder and the screws for them. The from and rear band seems the same as well. The crossbolt has a different size hole pattern then the Mauser 98's. My Brownell's Mauser 98 crossbolt wrench will not work on this.

I did a cursory examination of the Top two and tore apart the last one. They all had bolts and rifle #2 even has a matching bolt. Two of them had cleaning rods. These rods are threaded on both ends. All have slings, but rifle #3 has a canvas webbed sling whereas the others are leather. They have have dirty but very good looking bores. They were all DIRTY! They are all capable of going BANG, which is the most important part. I say for $16.84 ea, I got my money's worth.

#1 (top one) As you can see the wood is missing from the rear band all the way past the crossbolt (recoil lug). The handguard is complete, but cracked. (Repairable) Looks like minor rust on the barrel from the exposed parts. Sling is missing the button or leather tie to secure it.

#2 (middle one) That one has a crack and a piece missing from the stock. The handguard is broken and missing half of it. The nice thing is this one had the matching bolt and I like the color and pattern on this stock. Oh well.

#3 (bottom one) This one has the complete stock. A little frazeled at the front left side. Handguard is intact. I torn this one down and the all the metal had some type of Rust spots on it. It seems to be very minor and not deep at all. The sling is made from canvas webbing, not like the leather ones on the first two. The front site is loose and I can spin it around. Underneath the buttplate, the wood shows some small cracks. the buttplate seems to be larger then the stock. The buttplate was held in on the top with 2 finishing type nails driven in and bent over to hold the palte on.

That's it for now.

LPSpinner,

Great report. It's a shame that the top one has that big piece missing from the stock. You will have some great projects there and like you said, all three will shoot. That buttplate on the bottom rifle looks like it went on a different type Mauser. Do these have Turkish writing on them? And you got all bolts AND slings!!! Impressive!!! And also two cleaning rods. Finding a new stock might be a trick, but I'm sure you can do this.

This is a new M38 turk stock. The action is out of one or my century parts guns. The holes line up for the magazine and floor plate to connect to the action. The front ring area of the stock will have to be inleted a little more. The hand guard witch i forgot to show will fit over the sight but need's to be inleted back a tad bit.
I see J&G Sales Ltd has M38 stock's.Buy three and get them for $19.95 a piece in new condition.

AIC,

Great picture. That new one looks thicker than the older one but still is great! J&G has lots of good stuff, I highly recommend them. I wonder how you would get the round disc put back into the new stock? I have always wondered what the purpose of it was.

Don't exactly know how to replace it, but the round disc in the stock is used to break down the firing pin assembly for maintenance and cleaning.

I think they look great for the money! Heck even if they had no stocks they still would be a bargain!

The stock disk is a simple gromet fitting, similar to that on a poly tarp but thicker... If you have the two side disks then you can find the proper center (Tubing) and just flare the ends... I think brass tubing would be the easiest to work with but it can be done with any material... It just depends on how hard you want to work at it... If you don't have to remove it then don't and keep your rifle stock, If you do or it is missing then it is an easy fix :bye:

Thanks guys.

AIC, I was trying to find a stock without having to do the inletting. I was hoping for the original drop in fit.

Survivor99, I found that the easiest way to remove the Front barrel band (nose piece) is using the type of C-clamp. It's has a rubber coating so you don't have to worry about finding something to protect the barrel. Just clamp this onto a wooden take-out chopstick and I was able to remove the nose piece with my hands. Just pull and out it comes.

Guys, thanks for the info on the stock disc. I had no idea it was for bolt maintenance. LPSpinner, I think a visit to the hardware store is in order for a couple of those clamps. The one I had was totally worthless and is now at the garbage dump, LOL I can foresee more of these Mausers in my near future, so I will be prepared. Now I see why Zouave and some of you other guys love the Mausers so much. I wish I had a Swede or a Persian. Oh, well..... maybe in the future I will. They are loads of fun and basking in history.

I hope my kids don't see Pokemon there.......

Did he forget to mention that it is the Pokemon that actually gets the band off

Barring the broken stock parts, they still don't look too bad. Matching bolt on the one is a major plus. I think that top one with the missing stock wood is still repairable with a good amount of pinning and provided you have some walnut of similar look/type. I'd give it a go anyway. Those leather sling held together with leather thongs are the original correct type for the 1903. I'd have to do some looking concerning the web one. Great report LP. Hope the next batch come completely intact. All have bolts, and that's a big plus from the start. I know we were all a bit concerned about that given the limited supply of those around.
