View Full Version : Turkish Mauser Floorplates are my archenemy!

I just got my second Turkish Mauser (I got the first one from Schuetzenman) and just like the first one, the floorplate was almost impossible to get off. Once my father & I got it off (by using 2 screwdrivers and a hammer!) it took a LOT of sanding to get it back on. The problem with this one was that the front of the plate would go in with no problem but the back part (that snaps in where the button is) is practically impossible to get in. I had to press down as hard with all my strength and the use a screwdriver wedged between the back of the plate and the front of the trigger guard to get it to move foward and snap into place.

I have a Yugoslavian M48 Mauser and it is so easy: just press in on the button and the plate just snaps right out. You don't even have to push it. To get it back in, just press it down and move it foward with your fingers.

After sanding the inner wall of the magazine at the bottom (where the floorplate is) it seemed to go in a *little* easier, but it's still really bad.

What can I do to fix it?

Thanks.

Raphael,

I guess I took the easy way out. I never try to remove these floorplates. I take the entire assembly out of the gun, clean it carefully as a unit, and forget about it. The ones with the floorplate releases, like the Yugo M48, are a snap. Those Turks just don't let go, though, at least not for me. Hey, it's good to see you here. Post more often!!
