I lost my italian virginty and brought 2 Carcanos this week.:D They came with ammo, which seems to be...erm.. really bloody old. I loaded up a clip and fired the first, only to follow up with 2 misfires. I promptly buried the 2 unfired rounds and shelved the rest.
What type of 6.5 ammo should I look for? Is there any milsurp that is safe/reliable and reasonably accurate? Or do I have to buy commercial and reloads?
I read somewhere (I think it was cruffler.com) that the Prvi Partisan ammo from Yugo has fantasticaly poor accuracy, true?
Any advice appreciated, cheers!

1. The Yugo is the cheapest you can get and if your just plinking it is a good buy. The Norma is the best for accurracy Ive found but the price is up to around 20.00 + per box.

2. I understand that due to the interest in Carcanos lately Hornady is due to start selling a 6.5 carcano but it has yet to hit the market. Check the Sportsman Guide which advertizes here for the Norma Ammo.

Oh well I'll look for the Yugo stuff. Thanks Neil!

Enjoy the new Carcano's! Trust me they are addictive. What models did you buy? (and how about some pictures ;) )

The suggested retail of the Hornady ammo is around $18/20. It is the most accurate, as it uses a .268 diameter (correct for the Carcano), rather than the .264 diameter Swedish 6.5mm bullets, which Norma and Prvi Partizan use.
