I am considering the purchase of a new upper to install on my 25+ year old Colt SP1 preban lower.

I am considering a Bushmaster 16 inch (or 20 inch) with A3 upper receiver and rail.

My questions:
1. Is the Bushy chamber Mil-Spec?
2. If I buy it without the bolt carrier group, will my Colt bolt carrier gruop work with it?
3. Who has these complete uppers at a good price? (Bushmaster wants full MSRP for direct sales)
4. Are there other brands of quality uppers with Mil-Spec chambers and chrome lined chambers/bores?
5. Would I be better off just buying a complete new gun?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks in advance for any info.

1. I understand that all Bushies are Mil-spec except for their very target oriented ones, e.g. varminter or DCM.

2. A new bolt should be used for each upper. This is due to uneven wear patterns of the locking lugs from one upper to the next. If a bolt is "seated" to one set of locking lugs, and you swap to another upper, you can create a dangerous situation. Bolt carriers could interchange with no probs.

3. try www.ar15.tv or www.kiesler.com

4. Rock River might be that way now. Colt might be, but is way pricey. Other than that, I don't know of any.

5. As long as you're happy with the lower and stock arrangement, you may just as well get the upper. That's one of the nice features of AR's, the fact that you can swap uppers. May as well take advantage of that feature.
