IsraeliK98k

Hello all,
new member here from South Africa.
I wonder if any of U out there can help me out. I need to remove the front sight hood on my K98k so that I may replace the barrel bands, the problem being, it's unlike any front sight hood I've ever seen, has a large hole through ahead of the sight blade (towards shooter) that houses a transverse roll pin.
The pin is peened flat, and seems very tightly wedged into place.
Should I file the peened ends off, and punch out? Is thereanother technique?
BTW, my K98k is FN made, with the replacement Israeli made barrel in 7.62mm, dated August 1958 FWIW.
The reason I'm replacing barrel bands is that they have been heavily scratched and dented, the prevoius owner seemed to have tried to "modify" them, and did soem damage..
My rifle is also unfortunately not original, as he also had the action drilled and tapped, bolt handle is bent, and there is a Pachmayer recoil pad in place of the steel but plate.
I'm hanging onto this one because it'sdarn accurate. Milsurp SA ball 147gr shoots into 2-3" @ 100m (iron sights), while handloaded 155gr Match Sierras go into .05"-1" also iron sights!
In fact with a Nikko Sterling 4x44scope, it's more accurate than my Remington 700Bdl .30-06!!!!
Hope someone is able to help in removing that pesky sight hood.
Regards,
Darian
