My thoughts exactly. Dammit, I've been meaning to call Eric all week to find out their status, but kept forgetting. Guess I'll have to call work and leave myself a voice mail so I don't forget.
Now, Eric told me that the 98's they had were going to be 'expensive'. I sure hope $225 is his idea of expensive!
AvtomatKalashnikova
09-13-2002, 06:14 PM
Actually I was hoping AIM would give us a better deal than FAC. Usually AIM prices are the best! :) Of course it's also possible that AIM's are more expensive, but at better condition.
I hope they don't have those "Crossed Out Rifle" catpure mark that Soviets used to use.

Cool idea on the group buy if there's significant saving. Most of us have C&R so it's easy to ship and do paperwork, etc. I'm still hoping for something better from AIM. ;)

If you can see the picture of the crate full they are laminated. I would expect there to be a mix of lams and walnut.

this news about some "real" WWII German K98 is getting me all excited. When was the last time German K98 came into the country by the truckload? What was the price then? I wonder if this would be the last chance forever.

I'll call Erik on Monday and put out some feelers about a possible group purchase from the C&R Forums, just to see what they have to say about it. Then if something like this is doable for them I'll get something going.

SSME knocked $20 off the regular price on the TT33 buy on Gunboards (saved $40 on two) Helps them and helps us. If I rememeber right it was twenty guns. Think the guys here would buy that many?

Probably Dan44. if not I can think of at least 10 who probably would. me and Shuetz were talking and he's going to contact AIM on monday well let you know what happens. For sure we can get enough guys for the $199 discount with Harlan.

Maybe we can get AIM and FAC to bid against each other. :D
I'm definitely in if we can get some savings. Obviously handpicking won't really be feasible in a group buy, but I hope they let us name a few specifics, such as how many want laminates, and how many hardwood, etc.

Like I said earlier, when's the last time such a big shipment of GERMAN K98 came into the US? I sure cant' remember...and those Russians must be digging pretty deep to find them, otherwise they'd have sold those long time ago. What do these come with? Bayo, sling, etc, or nothing at all?

All I can tell you is what a person at AIM told me. All the markings are supposed to be intact. Conditoion is supposed to be VG or better . . . . . but they haven't seen them yet. Sometime next week they should be in.

Keep in mind that most of the time Russians put a "crossed rifle" - capture mark on these captured weapons, it looks like a little X. Sometimes you get lucky, I got lucky with a captured P38 w/o capture marking. I hope these don't have these marks.
CETME
09-15-2002, 12:52 AM
Why not? i think they add even more history to a legendary rifle. Built by the Germans, used by the germans... taken from the cold dead hands of a Nazi soldier and restored by the Russians..... what more could you want?! These are brewing in fascinating history.
Pa.Patriot
09-15-2002, 01:39 AM
I'd be in for at least one if AIM's has the original nazi markings, capture mark is fine by me as long as originals aren't scrubbed.
I think I'll order one from FAC in the mean time, just to be safe . ;)
I need to order more FAL US parts from FAC for my builds anyway :)

I purchased one from Empire Arms a few months back. All the marking are intact & two very small x's (or similar) were added to the top of the receiver, but they are not pronounced. The rifle had been completely reblued & is in excellent condition. It appears they cleaned them up, rearsenaled them & stored them. The only downside is that the parts are usually force matched with an engraver. I find that to be somewhat of an eyesore. I would imagine these new imports would be almost exactly the same.

I paid $275 for mine so, HECK YEAH, I would buy one for $225. As a matter of fact, I'm fighting off the urge to buy a 2nd one! The bore on mine is very good. Rifling looks sharp & no marks or pits that I can see. I've only shot it once & put a bandolier of Turk ammo thru it. It seemed to shoot high & to the right for the 1st 20 rounds or so, then it seemed pretty close to dead on. At first I thought it was once the barrel warmed up, but I now suspect it was my sight picture, since I'm not that familiar with this type of open sight. The only possible problem I can think of is when I opened the bolt slowly after firing, the shell casings would sometimes get stuck on the extractor. It was never a problem with a forceful pull , though.

Ok Gents,
Here's the word from AIM. They still don't have them in, they think it will be Wednesday, could be as late as Friday. They won't set a price until they have them get in. So, hang tight as soon as I have something I'll post it and the details about how were going to work this.
My advice is that any of you that want one should make sure you have your C&R's at AIM. Although I have my 01 FFL, I don't want to end up as a clearing house for secondary shippment. I think if we do this we should try and pay for them as a block but each weapon should ship direct from AIM to the buyer.

Wednesday I may know if I 'm buying a house or not. If it's not too late for me to potentially get into this could you ballpark what time frame you think this will occur over and how quickly I'll have to commit? No sour grapes here if it works out differently than what you post here. I just want this in the back of my mind in case things go to the crapper on this house and want to be able to jump in. I do not however expect to have the bus wait for me. Thanks

Guess I need to call ATF and try to prod them along.
Hypothetically, would I be able to get in the deal if I had AIM ship to my FFL transfer dealer?
Or, if anyone gets an extra they don't want ;) , I have some stuff I could trade. ;)

Well I think we all need to pony up by a week from today if they come back with a favorable price. These rifles are going to sell quick if they are as good as reports. They won't gather any dust if you follow me. So we need not keep AIM hanging waiting on payment from multiple people.
If push came to shove, I could have them shipped to me on an open invoice and distribute them from my store in NC. I hate to do that because of the double handling and shipping. I rarely get a price as good as they do on UPS. I of course would only charge what it costs, no profit from shipping if we have to go this way.
Anybody that's late on payment will see their rifle go to the next gun show with me and get sold. Sorry but if I take on the responsibility of accepting 10, 20 or 30 of these rifles, I'm not going to be left on the hook to AIM for the money long. No flame intended, to you Guinny or anyone else reading this. I'm just telling it like it'll go down IF, and I stress IF we need to go this route.
Once again I'd prefer that we send our money in and AIM ships to all of us seperately.

Yes, you can use a transferring dealer rather than your C&R if you have to. His FFL just needs to go to them with payment or to me if we have the scenario that I outline in my post to Guinny.:bye:

Appreciate the updated info from AIM. You always tell it like it is Schuetzenman, I like that! I too believe sending in the money (and C&R license) to AIM directly, and then have them ship out the rifle to individuals directly would be the best route. Schuetzenman has his own business to run and let's not add more burden to his daily life. Also this way if there's any payment and rifle quality issues should arise, we'd deal with AIM directly. (God knows we C&R people like to nitpick. :D)
BTW, We should have a separate signup post to make sure we know who's getting, and how many we are getting in all. I assume the bigger the order, the bigger break. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome, fellas!
I've been collecting guns for awhile, but only modern ones at retail (including some ugly black prebans that I bought back in the 80's) until I got my C&R a couple of weeks ago.
Since my Dad gave me some of his extras (a beauty of an FN49, an Argentine Mauser, and a Swiss K31) I'd have to say I've been bitten by the bug. Picked up my new AIM Yugo SKS at UPS today, have a Sistema, a Star Modelo P, a Turk Mauser, and a MAS 49/56 on their way. Is there any end to this affliction? :)
