Hi all,

Greetings from Singapore. Old time lurker here, first time poster. Just gotta say you guys are a ton of helpful information. :)

Little info bout myself, I was in the Singapore Combat Field Engineers for 2 & a half years, 90 to 93, as an E5, Section Leader.

Did loads of Bridging, Sapper Work, Field Fortifications, Demolition and Clearances and had a really good time.

Right now, I'm an Active Reserves Combat Field Engineer, with the same unit, with another 5 years to go.

I hope to exchange/share some AR-15/M-16 ideas, where legal, sometime soon. ;)

Okay, here's my qestion. I'm a southpaw firer that's still using the old M16SI [Made In Singapore, Triangular Handguards, Full Auto], and unlike the newer A2's, have to use a brass deflector to protect my face.

Can anyone tell me how many types of deflector mods there are for the M16?

Also, I'm looking for a particular one that's made of brass? triangular shaped that hooks onto the carry handle and locks into the small hole at the top of the carrying handle.

Thanks guys. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Stay safe.

Hey I thought I would chime in. IM a southpaw too.
I never had experience with the A1 Model and attaching a shell deflector. I do know the A2 deflector works fine for a lefty. I also have no problem with the standard safety. I can flick it off with my trigger finger without any thought that its made for a righty.

Back in the last century:rolleyes: when I was in the army I had the same type of deflector that you are describing (for the A1) except that it was plastic. I'm not sure if you have surplus stores in Singapore but that is where I would check first around here to find one. If not then one of the various military surplus dealers that are out on the web. No idea on the cost, but I'm sure that it wouldn't be too bad.

Try these guys, they are advertising one for $9.95, don't know what it is made of, it doesn't say, you could try shooting them an e-mail. Link:http://www.northridgeinc.com/ar15_m16.htm
