Thanks to the info provided by Schuetzenman, Redstar and Guinny_Ire, here's what you would need to "complete" your K98 from AIM. It's said to be missing three things, all of which maybe found at Numerich's, http://www.e-gunparts.com

1. Front sight hood Item#48040 - $5.10
2. Cleaning rod 12 1/2 repro Item#4990 - $13.95
3. Lock screws Item#6470 - $1.65 per screw (2 are needed)

For me the shipping came out to be a very reasonable $4.96. Good to know people still ship stuff cheap.

Now I'd like to know where I can get a bayonet for the K98. Did they have plastic grips or wooden ones? I remember seeing one awhile ago at a gunshow, a pitty I didn't pick up one.

Both. There were wood and bakelite grips on the original German Mauser bayonets.

Doh!! You could've told me about the sling and even cheaper cleaning rod. Thanks for the info though.

IMA does have the K98 bayo by the way, but it's $59.95.....I'll have to think about this.

thanks, I could really use a sling. :) does anyonek now if the bakelite grip is more sought after compared to wood ones?

Yea, too late for me on the cleaning rod too :)

I would prefer the bakelite but I think when Numerich had both types they charged the same for them.

I found out the hard way today that if you have a flat buttplate, chances are the 12-1/2" cleaning rod may not fit. The 12-1/2" rods seem to fit fine in stocks with cupped butts. But for flat buttplate stocks you'll need the shorter 10" (or is it 10-1/2"?) cleaning rods.

I just ordered the sight hood $5.95 each (GM9845), Nazi marked (new reproduction) 98K sling, $19.95 (GG9810), Unissued 12.5" Mauser 98k cleaning rod $4.95 (using a coat hanger my rod length is 13" to the end of the barrel), and a real Standard Nazi issue Mauser 98K Bayonet with a wood Grip complete with scabbard.

Order on line web site, but not thru e-mail (they were most rude on e-mail., i.e. Frank). If you call use Harry who was quite nice on the phone orders.

If it is true that 5000 of these rifles were imported and the way they are being sold out every two weeks is it better to not wait on these parts. How many of these old used parts are there? 5000? The new sling can still be made, but what of the other parts?

What are these Lock screws Item#6470 - $1.65 per screw (2 are needed)?

I put on a slip-0n Recoil Pad, black, medium, from Wal-Mart by Pachmayr for $9.97. These even fit my Russian M44s better.

I ordered it and they confirmed it on phone and e-mail! Seems expensive, but the current demand of Soviet (not Russian) captured K98s (I hear 5000 imported) may drive down supply and price up?

The BBT just gave me the 98k order and here is a list. I ordered from IMA-USA;

sight hood $5.95 each (GM9845), used and in good shape! Good buy.

Nazi marked (new reproduction) 98K sling, $19.95 (GG9810), very nice! As I am getting another k98 rifle I wished I had gotten the three slings for $50.00.

Unissued 12.5" Mauser 98k cleaning rod $4.95, looks new, very nice! I would buy again!

Original German WWII Mauser 98k bayonet, wood grip, $59.95 (YG9800) in good condition, 15" long, 10" blade, s/n on blade and handle did not match! Four digit number on steel part of handle and four digit number on blade are different. Letter "C" under the four digit number on the blade and the mark "J.Sch" on the other side of the blade. Also a "W&A155" mark in very small letters on the handle. Has a "39" on the back thick side of the cutting blade. The scabbard has a different four digit number on it. The scabbard is not as good of shape as the blade. Only about 5% blue left on the scabbard and with some dents. You be the judge on this one?

IMA-USA looks to be out of the cleaning rod and front sight hood. I'd rather have originals than the repros that Numerich's sells. Any idea where I can pick these up?

when i was in belguim this farmer had butloads of k98 bayonets that he had dug up from the battle of the bulge, he also had tons of hardware like stg44, mg42, tommy guns and all sorts or stuff that the americans and germans left behind, I ended up getting a nice 1942 german helmet thats pitted badly and the paint is rusted all off but you can see where a pice of scrapnel ripped through the top and killed its owner

 newbie question; i purchased a K98 from Aims S/42G. the front sight doesn't have a hood but not sure if one would work because there isn't any slots in it like my Yugo Mauser. Should the German rifle also have slot or are the front sight slotless?

early K98's did not have the slots on the front sight. only the older ones did.
what year is your K98?

Would the front sight hood fit on a 1940 made K98?

Just bought one and am trying to complete it as much as possible.

If there is a milled slot on the base of the front sight running parallel to the bbl, then yes, a hood will fit it.

762minigun:welcome: to the forums! I hadn't noticed this thread for awhile now as it's old but I happened to see your post here this morning.

On sources I see Numerich Arms / Gun Parts Corp has been mentioned. Also IMA in Kalifornia has been mentioned. I'd also suggest SARCO as they sell many of the parts necessary to complete a Russian capture K98k.

What mauser bayonets will fit the K98? Are there any cheaper alternatives to an authentic k98 bayonet? Other countries?

Yugoslavians will work just fine Buster Charlie, all that are pictured are said origin except for the bakelite on the far right.I've tried each of these Yugo's on my RC K98 and they fit as they should...

Cool, I ordered a Bayonet for my 98/22 (It was really cheap too!) and I figured since i'll be buying a RC k98 I'd like to get the missing items but I found this thread too late, everything is sold out! :(

So i'll try and find another Yugo Bayonet. Any other sources for parts that dont cost a crapload?

Hmm...not sure who you bought from but the company I got 2 of these bayos (one not pictured) is Gunparts. I checked their site and they appear to be in stock and I think they run about $25.oo.

I chose the EXC grade and got a fantastic blade with matching scabbard and I bought a frog as well in unissued grade.

Off the top of my head Gunparts is the only Co. that I can think of for said item(s)...

I bought a German original bayo from Marstar. I think I paid less than 50 bucks after computing the Canadian to US dollar exchange rate.

My rifle is a 1940 and I got a bayo from 1939. It is in good shape, but not perfect, just as you would expect from a battle implement. Not all numbers match, but neither do they on the RC K98.

I think it was worth it for something that is consistent with rifle's vintage and it all looks great together.

I have a nice RC k98 s/42 1940 mfg; it does not have slots on the front sight for a hood. Mine is from AIM, with the intact Waffenamts + swastikas, and no "X" on the receiver altho the floorplate, bolt and safety have electropenciled serials. I added a 12" cleaning rod and original leather sling from Numrich. Bore is good, altho little rough but it shoots very well with my handloads (170gr SP, 46 gr IMR4064). Gave it a thorough JB bore paste cleaning etc. before shooting it. Have about 200 rnds thru it at this point with no problems whatsoever. A very nice collector item.

I disassembled the rifle entirely to de-grease it and there are other numbers stamped on the underside of the barrel. Does anyone know, I believe the original K98 did not have the cup-style buttplate blued, as my rifle has. I was thinking of removing the blueing which isn't very great to begin with.

I am assuming that these are Yugo Bayos. These don't look to bad for $9, but will they fit a German K98? Sorry if it is a dumb question, I am a newbie to Mausers. I just ordered my first today.

I found out the hard way today that if you have a flat buttplate, chances are the 12-1/2" cleaning rod may not fit. The 12-1/2" rods seem to fit fine in stocks with cupped butts. But for flat buttplate stocks you'll need the shorter 10" (or is it 10-1/2"?) cleaning rods.
i need to order a rod,not sure, but think mine is cupped.anyone have a pic so i can be sure to order the right one?thanks!

The 10" rods were used up through 1939 when it was mandated that the rod bearing would be moved back further, due to the stocks becoming cracked. Moving the rods back a few inches meant longer cleaning rods. 99.99% of the time cupped buttplated stocks take the 12.5" rod. The reverse for the flat buttplated rifles is not as true of a statement though. I have three rifle stocks that are of the early flat buttplate type and two of them take the longer 12.5" rod. The easiest way to tell is to look for the bearing that holds the cleaning rod on the stock. If it is only visible from the inside, then it takes the 12.5" rod. If it is visible from the outside of the stock located under the rear band, then it takes the 10" rod.

As a rough "guestimate" based on the timing of the order to change production techniques, I would venture to say that at least 2/3 of the 771,500 K98's from 1939 and 3/4 of the 1,108,300 K98's from 1940, have both flat buttplates and long cleaning rods in them.

The rifle at the top has a flat buttplate and the one on the bottom has a cupped buttplate.

I would try gunbroker and auction arms. You can find them at a reasonable price there sometimes. Also try Tennessee Gun Parts.
