Sounds nice! What proof marks do you have? You bought a "G" rifle right?

I bought a k date zouave. The import mark is on the underside of the barrel near the front. Both keeper screws are missing from trigger guard.Top of reciever is stamped with a very tiny eagle then S/42K.

These are being brought in by Tennessee Guns in Knoxville. Yes it's engraved under the barrel in front of the bayonet lug. When you put the cleaning rod in it will minimize the visibility of it IMO. IT won't hide it completely though.

Aliceinchains . . . . cool you got yours already. So you got a hardwood stock, on the early ones that especially does not surprise me at all. That just adds to the rareness of your S/42K rifle IMO. I bet you don't have a cupped buttplate either do you?

I don't recall seeing any of these I think they pulled them out and put them aside for easier finding of them. I wasn't interested in investing the extra $$'s so I didn't ask about seeing one.

Hey can you post a picture or two this evening?

I just got mine as well, I am quite happy, but who is the maker? it is a S/243 and 1938, bore is great, and so is the bluing, plenty of eagles and some odd one as well, any ideas on who made it? Also did yours come with a scope and mount as well?

There is a great page for German ordnance codes at http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/codes_full.html. Should help you determine who made those "new" k98k's.

Hey I can see AIC's pictures now on my home PC. I wonder if they were there all along? Anyway, I can see it's got a cupped buttplate and a late front barrel band.

He's got a post 43 stock on a 1934 action. Humm . . . this is something that I mentioned already. They are mixed up and old actions are in newer later in the war stocks. That's one of the things I was trying to avoid when I did my picks.

Just some more of the charm of the Russian Captured rifles I guess. :D BTW, it sure looks good AIC! Can you take a close up of the buttstock and post it?

Just got email confirmation that mine is on the way!

I paid for the handpick. Basically told Bryan that I wanted a bnz, or whatever looked nice. He said he'd pick me out one. I'm kinda excited!

Yeah, I don't know much about what is rare/desirable or not, so I went with what I knew.

BTW, I notice AIC's cupped butt plate is blue. Did the Germans put them out blue as well as polished, or is this strictly a rearsenal deal?

Do you want to loose your "Signature line" privlidges?

Rich-
if it makes you feel like "The Man" to take my Sig line, then go ahead and do it. However it does not violate board policy, and even Fred thinks its funny.

Good link, thanks. Pretty sobering indeed. Got to poking around for a little more info and found this timeline on KZ Mauthausen GUSEN, where at least some of these were made.

here is a picture of todays delivery

A VZ 24 and my S/243 1938 Mauser at Berlin-Borsigwalde bore is great, many many proof marks, stock matches receiver and barrel, the bolt does not match.

Ahh, I see you finally have the information. Mauser Werke A.G., Berlin-Borsigwalde was in my original thread via the page from Olson's book that Aliceinchains posted. I didn't type out all the codes, just the main identified ones.

Your rifle looks good, but it's hard to see details, you need more light on the subject. :D Is it hardwood or laminate?
