1. I added some of the extras I had hanging around the house to give you the feel for this beauty. It has a small X on the receiver, other then that it has multiple proofstamps on her, one on the barrel, three on the reciever, one under the rear sight, on on the trigger guard, and one on the bolt. All numbers match except the bolt which is electroplated to match. She is missing a front sighthood and two setscrews. But other then that completlely intact.
2. the furniture is solid walnut not laminated. It has rearsenaled finish on her and is 95% blued.
3. She is a K/42 which is a 1934 date mauser. Thanks Shultz, (oops, I meant Shuetz)

I see you got an elusive "flat butt plate"!
Excellent! Enjoy!

These came without sight hoods. Hoods came out around 1941.

Beautiful rifle. Nice touch with the accessories.
As what Dan44 says. I spoke to Harlan the other day and he was telling me that the rifles made in the 30's were not made with front site hoods.

the K98 from 1930s don't have grooves to accept sight hood.

1. Yes, I am very pleased. This was a great buy. Now If I can just keep from stripping her down and restoring her I'll be alright.
2. JUST KIDDING GUYS:p

Looking good Neil! However I'm curious why you stuck the Yugo bayonet on it instead of the real K98 bayonet that is in the sheath? ;)
You have the correct early flat buttplate on yours as it should be. Same for the walnut stock. They went to laminate because they didnt' have enough hardwood available.
I saw a majority of the rifles with flat buttplates. If you look at the pictures of them in the crates you won't see even one cupped buttplate, they're all flat in that picture. Now they do have them, the cupped buttplate models I'd say are about 25% of the rifles that I looked at. As luck would have it the crate I photographed didn't have any.

Neil, great looking rifle! I hope that mine looks as good. I asked Brian if I should go the extra for the hand pick, he assured me that there was no need for it. That they all were pretty much great rifles. :)

Ohhhhh, I am so hot for an 8mm Mauser in great condition that you guys are killing me. I have two problems though. First, finances. Second, finding a dealer who will not charge me an arm and a leg.
That is the second beatiful Mauser I have seen on this board tonight!
