I cant find any reloading info using varget in 7.62x39. I pulled a bullet from a remington cartridge and plopped 25 grains of varget in there. 25 grains seemed adequate to pop the round. I could probably fit 27 without comrpessing. I reached this magic number of 25 by comparing 6mm PPC data and looked at how varget compared with other powders.. then went back to 7.62 and looked. I at first put 30 grains, but that was halway up the case neck. tried 29, still in the neck. went 25 to be on the safe side. I could always add more later.

anyone care to pitch in?

I have toyed with lots of powder/bullet/primer/brass combos in this cartridge (never Varget though), and my expirience would lead me to think that the Varget would be a little slower than optimal for this little case. I think you will find that 100%+ load densities (compressed loads) will yield sub--par velocities and perhaps erratic grouping due to incomplete charge burns. I have found that Reloader 7 is a perfect powder for the 7.62x39, but YMMV.

Hey, if you want a cheap powder to use for .223 and 7.62x39, try AA2200 or some of the data powder sold by Wideners and Natchez Shooters Supply. It burns a little fast for .223, which makes it perfect for 7.62x39
