Does anyone know how accurate the 1938 turkmausers are? (with a good bore?). I looked online but I didn't find too much. Are these rifles pretty accurate? or just fun antiques?

I've read 2" or so at 100 yds but don't look at me for those results

It depends on bore condition and bedding of the receiver. Most will shoot between 2 and 4 inches. More seem to be closer to 2 inch sized groups. Depends on the ammo too. Hint . . . Turk ammo isn't the most accurate! :p

I have a buddy that handloads for his and he has several that get down to the 1 inch to 1.5 inch group size range.

Thanks for the input. I saw the rifle online at a good price a while back. They give free shipping if you order 10+ of them. I'm going in with some buddies and we're going to get a lot of 10+. Also, I know a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy that has an FFL (he'll do the transfer for free), so I won't have to pay for the FFL transfer fee either :D. So I'm set to get 2 for 99.98 (one in good condition and another in very good condition). Can't wait to get them in my hands.

Are you getting them from Century? At that price I'd be tempted to get them from SOG at 27 a piece

I've got three, the best of them will do 2" with Turk ammo (which I find to be fairly accurate, oddly). The other will do 3-4", and the other is pretty stinky bore'd, it's lucky to spray a 12" group at 100 yards.

Gotta watch the crowns too, I think the Turks liked to poke rocks and trees with them. I recrowned two of mine and improved accuracy tremendously.

At 50 yards I could hardly keep mine on the paper...

I think part of it was the crappy bore on mine, but I think it was mostly because the ammo was so hot that I flinched everytime like a little girl.

A friend of mine has a few different Mausers and he told me just today that he took a Turk 38 and hit a human size target at 800 yards, in fact he also said that out of all the Mausers he has shot the Turk 38 is the only one that will shoot machine gun ammo with the harder primers, some of the 8MM surplus ammo is made for machine guns I'm told.:)

Yes some was made for MG's, in fact the 198 gr. bulleted ammo was all made with MG's in mind, that's why the heavy bullet. They wanted a round that would hit harder at long range than the original spitzer S bullet so they came up with the sS bullet which means heavy pointed bullet.
