DPMS Panther question - any good?

I ran into my FFL buddy at a gun show today. He had a DPMS Panther A2 sights on the table that he was willing to sell me for right around $600. I believe that it is the light weight.I know this is cheap for an AR-15, but is it worth it? I know a lot about AKs, but little about ARs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I wish I knew that when we got together. The reason that I asked is that I am looking for a light weight upper for my Bushmaster because mine is a bit heavy for my daughter to shoot. The alternative was a DPMS Panther Light Weight (around 6 pounds) that I found at my freindly dealer at the Tipton show. I will be going to the 1500 show this Friday and needed to know something about them before I see him at the show. I know nothing about the Panther line. Went to their web site but they do not show the Light Weight. I am not looking for a target model, just a good shooter that I know she would enjoy. At $600 it is not much more than an upper for my Bushy!

Thanks for the response, we'll have to get together again in the near future, that was a fun day. Would be nicer if it were cooler.
